1 Bedroom Ski Chalet in Benson

Our rural fully-equipped self-catering lodge is built upon recycled tyre foundations and powered by the wind and sun at the rear of a rural business centre. The lodge is set in a rural location a few miles from the historic town of Wallingford. It has its own fenced garden with South-facing sun deck and the lounge/dining room, bedroom and kitchen all have views over open fields to the South. We have chickens, geese and sheep in the next door fields. The ecolodge has been designed with plenty of light to make the most of the sunshine throughout the year, and there is a small wood burner so it's all warm and toasty on those cold winter evenings.
There's a separate open plan dining/lounge area with a link to a small well-equipped kitchen and a shower room off an entrance hallway. This also links to a separate large bedroom.
The kitchen is fully equipped with washing machine, gas oven, microwave, toaster, bodum-style coffee pot & frother and a good selection of kitchenware and utensils.
A wooden deck with patio furniture runs along the whole of the South-facing side of the building, looking over the garden and fields beyond.
Guest access
Guests have full access to the entire building plus the adjacent fenced garden. There is plenty of parking available in front of the lodge.
Interaction with guests
I provide my mobile number so guests can text me if they need anything. I live only 400 metres away so can respond quickly if required.
Other things to note
We can also provide plenty of hardwood for the portable fire-pit style barbeque if required which can be great on summer evenings!
The lodge is fully equipped with towels, tea towels, cloths, shampoo/conditioner, soap, washing up liquid and laundry liquid/conditioner.

Summary: Hidden away on the edge of farmland is a lovely little self-contained building with everything you need for some quiet time. Enter into a bright hallway that leads to a galley-style kitchen with all the basics. Wooden counters and chunky pottery reinforce the simple farmhouse vibe. The house shows its sustainability theme through its construction materials; unashamedly built from available supply. Off the entrance hall to the left is a large living room with two sofas, dining table, and a desk. Fireplace in the corner. Very spacious and glass doors out to deck and green space. Off the hallway to the right is a neat bathroom with a fabulous heated wall mirror. Next exit on the right is the bedroom. This is a huge room with fairly high ceilings and a queen bed as well as a single. Lots of storage. Ceiling-fitted heater that worked like a dream making this room very cosy even with the size. Again, glass doors to deck and green space. This little getaway was actually much more spacious that I was expecting and all of the outside seating areas would make for an awesome summer retreat spot. Easy access to Henley-on-Thames and Oxford if you feel like exploring. We had a car (plenty of parking space) but discovered that the bus stop is a manageable walk. I would definitely use this as a base again.

Summary: We were stayed in Oakwood ecolodge which is further on into the site than Mizpah. To get to it we had to drive past some workshops and on to a car park area that seemed to be a general dumping ground for vehicles and containers. DO NOT TAKE ANY NOTICE OF THIS as the lodge and it’s location was superb. Very clean, spacious and well equipped. We had good weather so the outside area was a real bonus to watch the birds including woodpeckers and not forgetting the ducks. The bus which goes from Oxford to Henley on Thames stops at the end of the road which is an asset. If you like a cosy place to stay with loads of space in a really relaxing location then this is for you. Some great pubs in short driving distance as is Wallingford. Highly recommended

Summary: The Ecolodge is a spacious and very well equipped house with everything you need for a short break. We spent a full week here and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. There are lots of places to visit nearby and on an evening it was lovely to sit out on the deck overlooking open fields and woods and see the red kites flying. The duck eggs were an unexpected bonus.

Summary: We spent three nights (Saturday till Tuesday) in this eco-lodge and liked it very much. Conveniently close to Oxford and yet very nice and calm. Nice view over the fields. No noises nearby, very quiet. We liked this very much after a full day in town. The lodge itself is roomy and nicely warm. Terrace in front of the garden doors faces the evening sun. The beds are good. The shower cabin is not too spacious, but the water is OK. The eco aspect shows in recycled building materials, solar panels, own wind energy and recycled items in the interior. Everything is functional though, and well cleaned. If we would like to visit this region again, we would certainly come back here!

Summary: Delightful eco-home. Lovely setting surrounded by sheep and ducks, turkeys and hens with gorgeous views from every window. Simple but very comfortable furnishing, nice big comfy bed (bigger than a double) with excellent pillows and duvet and another full size single, and very well-equipped kitchen. Milk, homemade jam and fresh organic free range eggs from the on-site hens provided (all delicious). Good shower. Lovely big thick towels. Beautiful old wood-burning stove. Delightful responsive hosts. Pretty much perfect rural retreat. Highly recommended.

Summary: We spent 3 days in the cosy and spacious cottage Mizpah on the countryside with ducks and geese, and in the heart of beatiful Oxfordshire. Not to far for any village, town or sightseeing spot.

Summary: A different sort of self catering accomodation- not the usual cosy cottage that we have stayed in before. Very large living/dining room and bedroom but small kitchen and shower room. Heating was different too. We didn’t have much success with the wood burning stove but, because the weather was sunny, the electric radiator was ok. The infra red heater in the bedroom was warm. I would have preferred a second shelf in the gas oven and more kitchen equipment such as chopping board and casserole dish with lid. Entrance to the lodge was across a yard but the back garden had a good outside area if the weather was better. The lodge was well situated for the River Thames.
