Positive: What can I say? This Ryokan was even better than how I’d pictured it. It’s hidden in a forest surrounded by nature and peacefulness. I even had a view from my room of the beautiful three story pagoda. The food is excellent and dinner comes in courses and beautifully presented like fine food (I chose the mostly vegetarian option), eaten in the private dining rooms with big windows to see the nature. The hot bath (not a true hot spring) has a schedule in evening and is freely available in the morning. I took a relaxing bath both morning and evening. It was exactly what I needed to get away from the hustle of the cities and recover from work stress. The owners are very kind, with one of them I was able to communicate a bit in English. I walked from the nearest train station there, which took me a bit under 1.5 hours. As I enjoy walking and the countryside is beautiful it wasn’t a problem, but it’s something to be mindful of, as there is no bus and the only other option is a taxi.
Negative: Nothing negative to say other than that I wish I could have stayed longer!
Summary: Wonderful and peaceful experience

Positive: Lovely veggie / veggie with fish breakfast and dinner. Ryokan situated next to a shrine in a rather remote area. Very quite and quaint. We loved that it is located out of the way without other facilities nearby.

Positive: This stay was a memorable one: the surroundings are really unique, with the temple just in front of the Ryokan and a large area to explore all the little details that this beautiful place has to offer. What made the stay even more memorable were the people who hosted us in the Ryokan, such hospitality and attention to our needs. The kindness of our hosts was touching. The meals they prepared for us were the most authentic and delicious Japanese food. And to soak in the bath and relax after a day exploring the area was just perfect! This is a place I strongly recommend to those who really want to experience Japan and the ways of Japanese culture, hospitality and food.
Summary: Wonderful stay!

Positive: This is a gem in the mountains not to be missed. There was tea and a snack waiting for us every afternoon in our room. We could see the beautifully carved temple and gardens from our room window. The meals were delicious! Many little dishes to make your mouth water served in our private dining room by the hosts who were exceedingly polite and friendly and explained what everything was. The baths could be taken privately with a partner. The bath was very clean as were the accommodations. A short hike to the top of the mountain gave beautiful views of the ocean and the Daisen volcanic mountain. This also went by the beautiful temple, which offers meditation sessions. There were two small stores nearby selling delicious sweets nearby. We cannot say enough good things about kouyoukan ryokan and it's hosts! A wonderful place to slow down and relax.
Negative: Everything exceeded expectations and could not have been better.
Summary: A very unique experience not to be missed.
