Positive: This is, hands down, the best hostel room I've ever stayed in. The hotel is beautiful and the location is otherworldly (see below RE scooter). The bed was incredibly comfortable, and everywhere was spotlessly clean. And I don't think I've ever mentioned the shower before in a review but I think it's the best shower I've ever had, anywhere in the world. The pool overlooking the estate is unbelievably picturesque, and the location - the sounds of the jungle whilst sitting on the balcony - is insane. The staff, too, were really very friendly, and very kind - they let me stay way past check out time to use the pool. The breakfast was a delicious array of South Indian foods. In sum, outstanding - and the value for money is exceptionally good. RE location: For me, it was perfect because it was out of the city, and incredibly quiet - an almost retreat. But I think you really need to hire a scooter or vehicle if you're going to stay here. There's nothing around the hotel/hostel, so you need to go into Chikmangaluru to eat etc. but this was fine for me, as I'd hired a scooter before arriving.
Negative: This wasn't a problem because no one else stayed in my dorm, but I think there needs to be locks on the storage units (or maybe I'm just being a very untrusting westerner...)
