Positive: The hotel has been renovated to be traditional. The kotatsu was a wonderful surprise in the room. I personally loved the hotel. The owner comes from a line of Samurai and practices katana.

Negative: The futon was a little hard and it's a 20 min walk out of town.

Positive: The Samurai Hotel Naraiso is very quiet, secluded, and peaceful. If your hiking the Torii pass, its the first hotel you'll encounter, if youre coming from the train station in Narai, its the last. They offer rental Ebikes, breakfast and dinner, and they also have a Dojo in the basement. The owner was happy to show us the Dojo and educated us on samurai swords. The beds were extremely comfortable, the hotel was very quiet and the shared baths were clean and convenient.

Summary: We would most definitely stay here again!

Summary: Of all my hotel stays in my 18 days Japan, the samurai hotel in Narai was the best.

Positive: Our experience here was phenomenal. I planned to propose to my girlfriend right before heading to this hotel and the owner went out of his way to come and pick us up after the proposal and bring us to the restaurant I reserved. He waited while we ate and even brought us sake to celebrate. Then he drove us back to the hotel and we got to watch a Samurai show. He made our special night even more memorable. The hospitality was above and beyond. The property was clean and comfortable along with an amazing breakfast. So happy we chose to stay here on such a special day.

Positive: Great, quiet, unique spot to stay while hiking the Nakasendo Trail (or just exploring the area). The staff was super friendly and quite helpful with questions. The room was a fun experience (in a good way!) as were the facilities broadly. Right next to the Nakasendo Trail (when not closed and diverted) and a not-too-far walk into town.
