Summary: This is in a good, non-waterfront spot on a side street near the bakery. It is an old house and kinda dark inside. It was clean on the surface but could use a deep clean in the kitchen and some updating of furniture like the main room sofa.

Summary: We rented this cottage on Dauphin Island for a week in March. Even with our limited mobility, the experience was excellent all around. The owner lives nearby and was very responsive. The house is an older property; It appears to be like something from the 1920s or 1930s. Nevertheless, the utilities function well and the place was renovated and clean when we arrived. The front entrance is 3 steps with no railing, but we could hang onto the window post. We brought our own portable toilet arm rests which adapted very well. The location is truly central in terms of Dauphin Island, located three blocks from the central business area of the island, which includes several convenience stores, automobile service stations and good seafood restaurants (car needed for Islander and Pirates), which is about all there is for "Downtown" Dauphin. It is a peaceful and quiet setting with very little traffic. Natural areas, Audubon and Indian Shell Mound, are good strolling and full of birders. The fort has the best gift shop. We were honored to have the oldest native-born islander and his wife move into the Whale House next door while their place is being rebuilt this spring.

Summary: This is our first stay in Sandy Hook, although we have stayed several times at this VBRO host’s other home next door. We keep returning to these homes because we like the hospitality they provide their guest. With only the two of us, this house is the perfect size and it is alway clean, well stocked, and comfortable. The kitchen is stocked with anything one would need to prepare meals although all we have “cooked” is coffee. They also supply a nice assortment of teas and coffee supplies. This is a nice place to stay and is in nice central location in town for exploring this beautiful island. Thanks again for a perfect visit.

Summary: Clean and close to everything. 2 nice size bedrooms an extra room with Ty and futon sleeping. Nice kitchen and dining with small living room space. Quite neighborhood. Love it. About our 6th time staying here.
