Positive: The staff are superb, respectful, and efficient. Although I barely understood Japanese, they had a translator tool at hand. The dinner is especially delicious, highly recommended for authentic Japanese kaiseki. Generally, the onsen is okay, including the sauna. The outdoor garden is definitely a must-see.

Negative: The indoor bath onsen water has some floating debris. Turned me off. Could use a water replacement.

Positive: We loved our stay at Sansuien. The staff were welcoming and super helpful. We needed to send our bags to Hagi by takkyubin and they were very helpful getting this to happen. Thank you. The meals were all outstanding. 13 dishes for dinner and healthy, fresh, tasty and fun. Don't forget to look around their beautiful gardens.

Negative: There was nothing not to like.

Positive: Beautiful garden and wonderful indoor and outdoor onsen. Excellent kaiseki dinners served in the room. Outstanding friendly staff.

Negative: Very traditional design with no hand rails on staircases and slippers required indoors and outdoors for onsen. I had trouble walking up and down stairs with winter socks inside the slippers. Tatami mats and futons for sleeping may not appeal to some visitors.,

Summary: Magical ryokan with hot spring bathing and excellent food and staff.
