Summary: Clean, safe, quiet and good service. The food was tasty, too. There are two things that make this hotel really neat. (1) The hotel is in the same building as the Stiklestad National Cultural Center, and it is hard to distinguish one from the other. The cultural center focuses heavily on the historical "Battle of Stiklestad," in which King Olaf II of Norway died in battle. The cultural center and hotel are full of works of art and images related to the battle, some of which are directly across from the hotel's rooms on the first floor. Likewise, the hotel is adjacent to a monument for Olaf and the Stiklestad Church located on the site where, legend has it, Olaf was killed. The cultural center hosts a number of events/performances through the year. (2) On a very different note, the building of the hotel and cultural center is a work of neat Modern Architecture, with curving walls and board-marked concrete reminiscence of the work of architects like Marcel Breuer and Eero Saarinen. The fireplace in the middle of the building was particularly striking. --- On a very minor note, the shower in the bathroom of the hotel room was poorly designed; the shower curtains don't prevent water from splashing out around the bathroom.
