Founded 1100 years ago and located in Mount Koyasan, guests can experience staying in a historical Buddhist temple at Sekishoin Shukubo. Japanese-style rooms are offered. Koyasan Cable Train Station is a 15-minute drive away. All rooms feature tatami (woven-straw) floors and Japanese futon bedding. Some rooms have free Wi-Fi access. A private bathroom is provided in rooms at the New Wing, and rooms in the Main Wing have shared bathrooms and toilets. Heating is available in all rooms. Positive: It provided fantastic insight into aspects of life in a temple.

Negative: This isn't a criticism simply a statement of fact, but when we stayed in early March the weather was cold outside and while the heating in our sleeping area was adequate and there were portable heaters in the temple and the dining area, the rest of the interior was very cold. Whilst we came prepared for the weather, it was nevertheless not the most comfortable experience, but then again this reinforced the authenticity of the environment, and you can't have it both ways!

Summary: We'd do it again.

Positive: this is our second stay in this temple/Pilgrim Lodge. We attended the cemetery tour, morning service, dinner , breakfast. we also tried the onsen in the lodge.
