Cross Keys House | Solitude at Three Springs

2 Bedroom House in Cross Keys, Elkton

We love nature and solitude. In 2011, we built a modern home nestled against 200,000 acres of the Shenandoah National Park. For one or two families, our house offers serenity and isolation, yet only minutes from Massanutten and Harrisonburg.
We designed our home to invite the surrounding forest in. By using a modern Scandinavian interior design, the home's simplicity conveys serenity, while the natural light highlights the complexity and beauty of the outside world. Over 30 windows punctuate the west, east, and south walls which look out into the Shenandoah National Park. The main living room has floor-to-ceiling windows, opposite a large stone wall with a Morso wood-burning fireplace. Doors from the kitchen and master bedroom slide open to an outside deck, creating an outdoor living space. The central part of the house is anchored by a watchtower formed in stone. Stairs located behind the fireplace lead to a trap door in the watchtowerโ€™s roof. The rooftop deck contains a seating area with a 360-degree view of the surrounding forest and a beautiful vista of stars at night. Best of all, the home is tucked into the Shenandoah National Park, offering complete privacy and solitude.
Guests have access to the entire property: 40 acres of hardwood forest adjacent and allowing access to the Shenandoah National Park. Our home is composed of a single story and includes 2 bedrooms, 2 baths, a common living/dining area, a full kitchen, a covered front stone portico, and a back outdoor deck. The two bedrooms are each accented with an exposed Metwood beam. The master bedroom has a king-size bed, A DVD player, and a seating area for reading. The second bedroom has two bunk beds (sleeps four). Each bedroom has its own bathroom with tile showers. Our home features a full kitchen with cookware, flatware, and appliances (microwave, Keurig, oven).
Solitude encourages relaxation. We provide many of the household essentials that make a vacation just that: towels and linens, extra blankets, toilet paper, kitchen items such as paper towels, dish and hand soap, and laundry detergent.

Summary: I canโ€™t begin to say enough great things about this property. Admittedly, the driveway to get back to the home is a little daunting; it seems to go on forever. I definitely felt removed from the outside world, which turned out to be a real gift. The home is lovely and all of the windows really bring the outside in. You are consumed by nature, without having to be in nature, something a non-camper who loves the idea of camping dreams about. This is my second time staying here, but hopefully it wonโ€™t be my last. Highly recommend!

Summary: We stayed at the house for a long weekend to get away before taking our daughter back to school. The house is beautiful and far enough into the woods for privacy and to completely immerse you in nature. While we were there the hot tub was not functional nor was the sail cloth covering the porch available. Unfortunately we were not advised of this prior to trip-it wouldnโ€™t have been a deal killer but certainly would have helped with expectations. The only other thing that guests should know about the house is how noisy it is. The acoustics are tremendous and even the lightest foot sounds like stomping and normal shutting of cupboards sounds like slamming. Additionally the house seems to settle through the day but especially at night there are banging noises that are loud enough to wake solid sleepers. None of this would prevent us from staying again. It gave us some much needed unplugged time together.

Summary: We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Solitude at Three Springs. The home offers a clean, comfortable place to relax, connect and gaze at the stars from the roof deck. It is a very convenient location to Shenandoah and Monticello. Thank you for offering it to us and others.

Summary: My family and I really enjoyed this jewel of a modern home south of Elkton, VA. It was close to Massanutten resort and Shenandoah National Park for plenty of weekend outdoor activity. The house is very clean, comfortable, and we as a family enjoyed all of the stocked games. We didn't utilize the porch/outdoor areas that much as the mosquitos were severe (as they are everywhere in August). It was better on the roof watchtower, which was WONDERFUL for watching the bats at dusk and the stars at night. No real furniture is up there, though, so we just brought up a blanket to star gaze. The kitchen equipment (knives, pans) is better in this cabin than in most we've rented, and so cooking was fun. Cooking basics like salt, oil, & pepper are stocked from the owner or past renters. Only sour note was that when we rented the cabin, we had the impression from the outdated property description that the hot tub on the porch was working, but it is not functional and not part of this rental. Otherwise, we really enjoyed the long weekend - this was a lovely property to experience.

Summary: Our family of four loved our stay here. It sits about 1/2 mile off the road on property that directly adjoins Shenandoah National Park. You can see the blazes marking the boundary of the park on the way down the lane to the home. We enjoyed all the games and toys for the kids and the rooftop area for stargazing. The home is surrounded by woods and wildflowers. We saw many birds and rabbits. Great for firefly watching at dusk too! Well stocked kitchen with everything you need to prepare meals. Most staples available in cabinet. Be aware there is no WiFi and cell service is spotty in the home.

Summary: Location was fantastic! Couldn't have been any closer to nature without actual camping. Every morning we took a long hike out the backdoor and into the woods that connected to the Shenandoah National Park. Our toddler loved seeing all the trees and the wildlife. House was very nice! Clean and well-equipped. Plenty of room for the three of us. Owner was very accessible and responsive through the app. If you want to do some socially distant hiking and outdoor fun, this is a great place to spend some time!

Summary: A gorgeous home in a secluded setting with amazing views of a meadow and woods. Close to Shenandoah National Park, shopping/dining, and the areas other activities like kayaking, biking, lavender field. Being city dwellers we did feel a little exposed at night with so many windows and would have preferred shades for privacy and the keep the room dark to sleep in. We loved the solitude and sounds of nature.
