This spacious and sun-filled Castle Hill retreat is perfect for families, friends, and solo travellers looking to escape the hustle and bustle and get away into the mountains. Located in a stunning alpine environment, this property is a beautiful spot to relax and enjoy the surroundings, or as a launching pad to the many adventures close by. The indoor fire keeps things cosy in the winter and the newly-installed heat pump is there to give things a little boost if needed! Castle Hill is a charming alpine village set in the heart of the South Island. Only an hour away from Christchurch with plenty of activities to do nearby including snow skiing, mountain biking, climbing, and hiking!
Open plan living and kitchen makes it the perfect space for kicking back and relaxing! The sun streams into the house all day, keeping the it lovely and warm during the cooler months, while the front sliding doors open all the way up to allow for amazing indoor-outdoor flow in the summer. Perfect for sitting out on the deck and soaking up the sun! In winter the log burner and newly-installed heat pump easily keep the house toasty warm.
The upper level has two bedrooms each containing queen beds with additional single roll-aways, and a landing area with a sofa and single bed. It's the perfect set up for families or groups of friends!
The main bathroom is located on the upper level with the bedrooms, with the stunningly spacious open-plan central level dedicated to kitchen and living space. A second full bathroom and laundry is located on the lower basement level. The house is fully insulated and double glazed.
Linen sets for each bed and towels are provided.
Please note the loft area is not for sleeping as the gap between the railing is too large. Please keep any kids from climbing up, as tempting as it may be!

Summary: A dryer was advertised but was not available. With four children, having a dryer was an important criterion for us when choosing this house.•The house was listed as suitable for 8 people, but there was only a high counter with four barstools, and no table or seating arrangement appropriate for children.•The house was described as child-friendly, but the steep stairs had no safety measures, making it unsuitable for small children.•There were also very few toys or activities provided for children.

Summary: I was not careful in checking the listing. There is no dining area. Only bar counter with stools. And only 4 at that in a house that can accommodate at least 7. I had 6 people and 2 of us had to eat standing. One of the bar stools rocks on its base and is therefore potentially dangerous. It makes you think you might fall off, you over correct and may actually fall off. It happened to 3 of us who used it and almost fell off. It is irresponsible to provide such unsafe furniture. There is no microwave oven. That is just incredulous. The house gives the impression that the owner tried to cut cost and save on basic amenities. There is construction material in the porch and on the deck and the side of the house. Over priced accommodation. Caveat emptor.

Summary: Great stay for families , nice sized lounge , 2 double bedrooms with single beds +loft + bedding area for kids , nice views and warm with fire place & heat pump. Well catered . Would definitely return

Summary: A week in castle hill with our family in winter. somehow the photos don't quite do it justice - the main living area is stylish (tho furniture not so much) and welcoming. the upstairs is good with overflow space in the loft for teenagers who want to spread out. wooden floors make it a bit noisy. the house warms and holds its heat well. the carport under the house keeps ice off the car windscreen. the kitchen is well appointed tho the oven confusing. one gotcha is no microwave for those used to one, and take some power boards if you have as many gadgets to charge as we have. there are only 4 bar stools around the kitchen bench and no dinner table. wifi worked well - essential for our kids. we'd definitely stay again - thanks!
