You approach the villa up a long sweeping drive bordered by beautiful hydranga's. This villa was one of the first to be built on the Praia del Rey resort. It has character and charm and offers a wealth of beamed ceilings with a truly Portuguese feel. It is surrounded by mature gardens and fruit trees and offers privacy on all the terraces. There is a large private swimming pool with a solar blanket. A BBQ is situated under a tiled pagoda shelter and a sun lounge leads you from the lounge to the terraces and swimming pool. The villa is within a few minutes walk to the Clubhouse which has a restaurant, bar, snacks and lounge area with plasma screen cable TV and games room. It is about 7 minutes walk to the Marriott 5* Hotel and Spa.
Praia-del-Rey has been chosen as Portugal’s No1 golf course (Peugeot) and ranked 13 in Europe by Golf World. There are also all weather tennis courts available.

Flights/Car Hire:: The closest Airport is Lisbon and is serviced by flights with British Airways, Monarch, TAP and Easyjet. Booking as early as possible will enable you to get some very reasonable rates. For Car Hire it is best to book car hire before arrival and this will again secure the best rates. The drive to Praia del Rey is about 50 miles and nearly all of it is on a motorway and is very easy. If you take a taxi from the airport it will cost approx. 110 euros. We do have the telephone number of a very helpful taxi driver (who speaks English well) in the village and you can phone him from this country and make a reservation and he will be at the airport to pick you up. We have always found him to be very reliable and this will be a cheaper alternative than picking up a taxi from outside the airport.
Activities: : Within the Praia del Rey comples is an 18 hold Championship golf course rate No. 1 in Portugal by Peugeot's 2003 guide - lessons/driving range available. Clubhouse with restaurant. 5* Marriot Hotel with restaurants, spas and fitness rooms. Seven all weather tennis courts. Childrens activity playground. Swimming pool. Beach for sunbathing or long walks. 3km is Obidos Lagoon - ideal for paddling with very small children. Day trips to the Berlengas Islands, which is a National Park, can be taken in the summer months from Peniche. A Go-Karting track is at Lourinha. A cinema and bowling alley have just opened up in Caldas da Rainha.
Praia D'El Rey Golf was elected 2011’s 'Portugal´s Leading Golf Resort” by the World Travel Awards. These awards are considered by many as the “Oscars” in Tourism. Also, 'Portugal's Leading Resort' in 2007 and 2008, along with Europe’s Leading Golf & Leisure Resort in 2009 & 2010.
The Area:: Obidos and Peniche are the two nearest towns. Obidos dates from 300BC and a world heritage town with narrow streets leading to a castle at the top of the hill surrounded by a walled town. It is very pretty with its whitewashed walls and blue paint with bourganvilla's and hanging baskets of cascading flowers. Peniche is a working fishing port where day trips to the Berlengas Islands (National Park) can be taken in summer. Other towns Bombarral (wine), Caldas da Rainha (ceramics- who supplies Harrods of London with some of their wares!, good shopping, market and restaurants) a new cinema and bowling alley, Foz do Arrelho (alternate beaches) Fatima (religious shrine) Lisbon (museums, shopping and nightlife).

Summary: The house is spacious, the surroundings are beautiful and quiet, location is great, the beach is a 12min walk away, we played tennis, did some surfing lessons, ate out every day in the many great restaurants in the area, some excursions to Obidos, Belangas, Sintra, massages, yoga in front of the sea etc and overall had a fantastic time. The weather was good and way more enjoyable than the heatwaves of the Mediterranean. If you like an active holiday, you'll find many things to do. Mandy was a super reactive and helpful host. Thanks a lot for making this holiday a great one!

Summary: Mandy has been very helpful and kind, lovely hostess and very clear instructions. The house & garden are both very spacious and the kids had a fun time playing! The house however wasn’t the perfect fit for us. We stayed with two families with small children. My family stayed in the downstairs wing where it felt like sleeping in a basement. Very damp and musty. The beds upstairs and downstairs were uncomfortable, the rooms downstairs were very simple. The temperature of the water in the shower upstairs was hard to adjust and nearly burned one of the kids after first being cold for what seemed for ever. Everything including towels etc was old. There were no beach towels. Kitchen very well stocked though. The house is situated on a very uninspiring resort where as we were hoping to enjoy the authentic Portugal. We should have researched the area better. We choose the house because of its character but we might be happier with a slightly newer and more luxury home next time!

Summary: We stayed for 11 nights with teenage boys (14 and 16) The layout of the house was perfect due to the peaceful master bedroom upstairs and the boys could close off a couple of downstairs bedrooms and have their own privacy and space .i was concerned due to the lack of air conditioning but the bedrooms stayed cool with only occasional use of the supplied pedestal fan. The pool table was a bonus and the pool area private. Golf was easy to book and played several different 9 holes as a family. Highly recommend Alex surf school in Baleal - can rent surf boards and body boards or lessons. Family restaurants in Baleal and club house in resort highly recommended.Cost of living seemed cheaper than the Algarve and whole area much quieter and unspoilt. Recommend Obidos ( esp the Medieval festival )and Nazarre ( make sure to get funicular railway up the cliff) for evenings out . Would definitely come back! House is historic and we thought beautiful . Not smart or high tech and really only 4-5 Englsh TV channels.Good WiFi and owner Mandy a delight to deal with.

Summary: What a lovely villa, spacious and secluded. The owner couldn't have been more helpful and location worked perfectly for us. We could walk to the club house or beach or drive a short distance to local villages or main town of Peniche. We loved relazing by the large pool. Beautifully maintained gardens with so many flowers and fruit! We hope to return next year!

Summary: We had a few days sightseeing in Lisbon before staying at the villa, which is spacious, full of character, very clean & well equipped & exceeded our expectations. It is set in a lovely peaceful location, the garden has several areas to enjoy & relax, a BBQ area & very inviting pool. The golf club house & Marriott hotel are easy walking distance. It is a good base for exploring, we visited Sintra, Obidos, Peniche, & Nazareth. Mandy the owner was very helpful when booking & we will definitely be returning.

Summary: What a peaceful spot and so secluded and yet only a short walk to the Clubhouse, restaurant and bar. Lovely gardens and areas to sit throughout the day in sun or shade and the conservatory overlooking the swimming pool where I could read a book and watch the children in the pool was brilliant. The house is very comfortable and well equipped we couldn't have asked for anything more. Close to Obidos, Peniche, Caldas da Rainha and so many interesting places to visit. Swimming pool was really enjoyed by the children and the large BBQ area beside the pool was brilliant. The owners were very helpful from start to finish. We will definitely be back.

Summary: We have just came back from one week in this magnificent villa. The pictures do not justice to the home and garden. The villa is very large and luxurious, the kitchen has everything you need and the pool very pleasant to spend a day. The bedroom were big en enough closet space. Mandy, the owner, is really nice and very helpful, We had a very nice diner at restaurante Nau Dos Corvos in Peniche. with the best view of Portugal. I can recommend this villa to everyone.

Summary: We stayed in this lovely house the last week of July with two families and a grandmother. The house is fully equipped and everything is present. Mandy is extremely helpful and willing to give extra information or in our case more towels. The graden is big and beautiful, the pool is perfect and the bed- and bathrooms are more than fine. Especially the master bedroom upstairs is of a luxury hotel quality.

Summary: Five adults had a great stay in this very spacious villa which has lovely character and lots of room. Peaceful and private. The Pool and pool room were very popular. We ate at the Em Banho Maria in Serra del Rey which was very good. Great food and friendly service. Highly recommended.
