The incredible, architecturally designed Stilt House opened in August 2022 and is our most ambitious project to date. Perched on 57 stilts above the woodland floor with a unique elliptical excision, we are so excited to share this project with our new guests.
Internally clad in a pine plywood finish, stained in forest green and with floor to ceiling windows, you have a sense of being wholly enveloped by the surrounding woodland.
The experience within the space is a calming journey of moving from dimly lit to wide open vistas. The elliptical curve invites you to discover what awaits around the corner. Each window with a different aspect, inviting light into the space at different times of the day.
A stay in the Stilt House will soothe the senses of your soul and bring you back to nature. Oh, there's a wood fired Swedish hot tub hidden in the woods, just for your own use!
Being completely isolated in the woods, need not come without the simple luxuries that we offer at all of our Fernwood stays. At 45 square metres, it feels even bigger, and would rival a honeymoon suite in size and experience.
The Stilt House has the same mattress as those used in the Merrion Hotel Dublin whilst furniture has either been locally handmade or sourced from design houses in Scandinavia. There is a Bang and Olufsen portable speaker, which can be brought outside whilst you relax under the birch canopy in the wood-fired hot tub.
The fully equipped kitchenette comes with a microwave oven combi, an induction hob and fridge with freezer compartment. As always, there is tea & coffee along with other breakfast items to get you started.
The bathroom is huge, with a fabulous rain shower and awesome window overlooking the native Irish woodland.
In keeping with our minimal impact ethos at Fernwood, the building is A-rated and features triple glazed windows and an air to water heat pump.

At end of a country road and at the beginning of the Connemara Greenway, Fernwood is a true oasis with the benefit of being 2 minutes from Clifden town.
Our organic farm is on a 140 acre private estate comprising of native woodland and bog, on the shores of the Salt Lake.
Walk out your front door to explore, in complete solitude, our 2km of woodland paths, the wonders of the Connemara bogland or relax in our newly constructed lakeside sauna house with plunge pool.
You can chose to stay in our new refurbished Bothy conversion which is finished to the highest spec with underfloor heating, wood burning stove, sheepskin rugs and feather down duvets
For the ultimate experience chose our luxury treehouse dome/tent or better again a Stilt House Suite with private wood-fired Swedish Hot Tub.

Summary: The stilt house was stunning, obvious that so much care and attention has gone into its design and maintenance. The scenery is beautiful and window locations make it feel so private. The wood-burning stove was a massive highlight in terms of cosiness. The toiletries were high quality and smelled amazing. The sauna was fun. The only thing I would say is that it was a bit cold, we had the stove on all day. The oven tray had some ?croissant crumbs on it.

Summary: The serene aesthetic of the stilt house that mirrors the woodland surrounding the property is magical! My girlfriend and I adored the wood burning fire. The dim lighting made the environment cozy and relaxing. The sauna and plunge pool was an incredible experience. We cannot wait to come back to visit the stilt house during another season and experience how it changes the vibe. We can’t recommend the stilt house and the whole Fernwood experience enough!

Summary: Stayed here last weekend and loved every minute. The Stilt House is completely immersed in the woodland setting, making it a really unique escape from the ordinary. It was so comfortable, thoughtfully designed and run by the nicest people. The sauna and plunge bath were fantastic. After 3 nights here, I felt more relaxed than after our 2 week summer holidays in Portugal. Fernwood is definitely in my top three best places I’ve ever stayed. We will be back!

Summary: On instagram they have many reels on “instagram vs reality” Well in this case the reality was better than instagram.
