Positive: The location is excellent, close to the beach and surrounded by a beautiful, peaceful landscape. Our room had been renovated and was comfortable, fresh and well presented. Overall, the setting made the hotel a very pleasant place to stay, and we enjoyed our visit despite the problems with the service and restaurant.
Negative: Unfortunately, the service was far below the standard suggested by the hotel and its prices. Several members of staff appeared inexperienced, disengaged and insufficiently attentive. We were served the wrong food, empty tables were left uncleared, and staff repeatedly walked past them empty-handed rather than dealing with what was evidently needed. One waiter also had a noticeably unpleasant personal odour, which made the dining experience uncomfortable. We ate dinner at the hotel on our first evening but chose to eat elsewhere the following night. The starter was genuinely very good, but both main courses were extremely disappointing. The vegetarian dish was far too salty, while the pork was both far too salty and so heavily seasoned with pepper that it was effectively inedible. We explained the problem to the staff, but nobody offered to replace the dishes or asked whether we would like something else. Instead, we were given two glasses of dessert wine. That gesture was appreciated, but it did not adequately address two main courses that could not be eaten. One member of staff appeared to be trying to compensate for the shortcomings around her, but she was visibly tired and irritated. We were left with the impression that something may have been going on behind the scenes. The hotel itself has considerable potential, but the restaurant and service require much stronger management, training and attention to basic hospitality.
Summary: Beautiful location and comfortable room, but poor service and a disappointing dinner.

Positive: The location was good, close to the beach and in a quiet neighbourhood. Ideal for a wide range of activities. The breakfast was well prepared and more than adequate. The beds were more than comfortable for us.
Negative: There is a lot of potential, but it is not being fully utilised at the moment. The photos on Booking.com also give a distorted picture and do not correspond with reality. The bathrooms definitely deserve an upgrade and were a big disappointment. The building where the rooms are located definitely deserves an upgrade. Negative: We had to store our bicycles outside our room more or less in the carpark on full view. Also, if we didn't want people peering into our room as they walked past, we had to have the window blinds down.

Positive: As the name implies, the Strandhotel Klitrosen is wonderfully close to the beach. We reached it late in the day after taking the ferry from Norway, and the hotel staff very kindly arranged for us to get into our room after hours. It lies on a quiet street, and our garden-facing room was very peaceful. There was some light coming past the blinds, but we nonetheless had a great night's sleep. Our room was clean and spacious, and the beds were comfortable.
Negative: There was an odd smell in our room, like it had not been aired out in a long time. It looks and feels old; the exception was the bathroom, which appeared newly renovated. There was no coffeemaker or tea kettle, even though there is a small space that looks like a kitchenette. We arrived quite late to breakfast, which may explain why it was rather sparse, with few options.
