If you are seeking the action/adventure options of the kingdom trails or burke mountain or are simply looking for a beautiful redoubt from which to soak in the beauty of the nek, this is the place for you.
Our one bedroom apartment is connected to our home by an enclosed porch. The apartment offers a very comfortable living room/dining room/kitchen main space with built in bookshelves, original art, and a tivioli two sound system. Wi-fi is also available. The kitchen is well equipped for those who prefer to cook in. A propane grill is also available. The small bedroom has a new queen sized bed. The living room includes a couch that converts to a queen-sized bed. Wide board pine floors and accompanying pine window trim and furniture give this space a clean and cozy atmosphere.
The apartment has its own porch overlooking three plum trees, kiwi vines, and our vegetable garden. Wild turkey and deer are often seen in our fields and the morning birdsong greets your awakening.
Our solar-powered homestead is situated on 36 acres of hay fields and hardwood forests. Trails begin out the back door and wind through fields and woods. Along with our garden, the house is surrounded by perennial beds and a number of fruit trees and berry bushes. The apartment has outstanding views of Kirby Mountain, fields, and hardwoods.
Along with our dog Kenai and cat Lulu, we have a small barn housing hilary's horses Chipper and Echo and two alpine goats, Violet and Kirby.
While there is great dirt road biking and walking (nordic skiing and snowshoeing in the winter months) out the back door, we are only 15 minutes from the incredible Kingdom Trails and 15 minutes from Burke Mountain. Our local supermarket, the white market, is five miles down the road. Saint Johnsbury, 20 minutes distant, offers great movies at catamount arts as well as the worth seeing Saint Johnsbury Atheneum and the Fairbanks Museum.
The apartment is perfect for two, though it can accommodate a maximum of four. Sheets and towels are provided.
There is ample parking for two cars.
A minimum two night commitment is required. Our rate is $110/ night for two and an additional $10/night for each additional guest up to four.

Summary: I'm actually a bit conflicted about writing this review because part of me doesn't want other people to know how wonderful these hosts and their beautiful rental space is because I'd like it to be my very own, special secret place! The De Carlos are dream hosts. Responsive to your pre-visit questions, available for any on-site queries that come up. They offered great suggestions for places to visit and eat in their area. They are both the very definition of graciousness and hospitality. And then there is their gorgeous rental space. It's in an idyllic setting, with a wonderful menagerie of horses, goats, and family pets on-site, too. Tom and Hilary have given a great deal of thought and care to providing for their guests. Everything you might need during your stay is available for your use. The rental space is spotless and beautifully furnished. It was the highlight of our visit to the Northeast Kingdom--which is saying a lot, since there is so much to see and do in this beautiful part of Vermont! If you stay at this VRBO accommodation, you will not want to leave, and you will want to come back again and again!

Summary: Went to mountain bike,but, the weather didn't cooperate. Even though it rained 90% of the time, we had fun. The place was beautiful! In-law apartment was quaint and inviting. The couple was sweet and kind. Loved all the animals! It was nice and quiet. Not to far from the riding trails. Would go there again and again.

Summary: This was me and my fiancés second time staying at Tom and Hilary’s property, and we will absolutely be coming back again! The property is gorgeous, the apartment is super clean and comfortable, and Tom and Hilary are without a doubt two of the kindest people you will ever meet. We love coming here for the hiking, and there are plenty of beautiful spots less than an hour from this property. We also love that the kitchen is stocked with all of the appliances, utensils, dishes, and pans you need to cook your own meals. Honestly, we could never say enough good things about this place and its hosts! We highly recommend this place to anyone who is looking for a quiet, nature-filled getaway to Vermont’s NEK!

Summary: We had a lovely snowy weekend at Tom and Hilary’s apartment. We appreciated it being dog friendly. Their apartment was very comfortable and clean. The kitchen was well stocked and easy to work in. Tom and Hilary have a beautiful wooded property and we had a great time snowshoeing with our dog. They were around and answered our questions and gave us good suggestions about the area. We’d love to come back again.

Summary: We had last minute travel from California to Vermont to surprise our children and grandchildren on one of their birthdays. The stay was great, less expensive and nicer than the available hotels in the area. Will do it again.

Summary: I stayed at Tom and Hillary's place with my young adult niece and my two dogs. The apartment was perfect. Very cozy and well appointed with beautiful views from all the public area windows. I enjoyed several hikes with my dogs through their wooded trails and the property is very remote and peaceful. We enjoyed traveling to nearby destinations for additional hiking opportunities, went on a self-guided covered bridge tour and enjoyed some quaint art/antique shopping and nice cafes, like the Peacham Cafe. The owners are friendly and helpful but completely non-intrusive and Maya, their dog, is super friendly but also non-intrusive! My dogs liked her very much. We also enjoyed petting the goats!
