Te Akau House | Sunset Beach, the undiscovered West Coast gem and dog heaven

2 Bedroom House in Te Akau, Port Waikato

Only 1 hour 20 min. drive from downtown Auckland, Port Waikato is the undiscovered gem where the mighty Waikato River meets the wild west coast. Get away from the city noise and people, come fishing, surfing, walking or just chilling out.
A tasteful and newly renovated two bedroom flat. Perfect for families and dogs, beautiful polished concrete floors and a very large bifold window that opens up the lounge to the outside courtyard. A brand new kitchen and bathroom with an outside hot water shower.
Other things to note.
Port Waikato has a general store “the wharf store”, a fish & chip kiosk at the campground and “Sundays”, a coffee caravan at the beach car park with very good coffee and nibbles.
The wharf store stocks the basics but there is no alcohol or petrol available here. Tuakau (closest town) is 30 minutes away by car. Pukekohe is approx. 35 minutes.
We are next to a children's playground with flying fox, tennis court and volley ball net.
Pets welcome, we have one friendly dog.
It's 10 minutes walk to Sunset beach and 20 minutes to the Waikato River, both through the grassland and dunes.
Sometimes I will be staying in the flat above and I'm very mindful of guest privacy.

Summary: We stayed a few nights and found everything to be remarkable - the location, the flat, communication throughout, and of course also Bodie the lovely dog. Jamie was very responsive and welcoming, and ensured we had everything we needed. The flat was well equipped and very comfortable. The property and grounds are quiet and extremely well kept. There were lots of nice touches that made the stay very enjoyable. Would definitely recommend and wouldn't hesitate staying again.

Summary: A perfect weekend getaway for 2 adults, a teenager and our dog. Not far from Auckland so an easy commute. This bach has a very friendly, modern and funky vibe, it's very well maintained, has everything needed, beds are comfortable, water pressure is great. Beautiful concrete floors, will remember to bring my slippers next time. Info about the area and the bach was provided which was appreciated and the hosts are very friendly and told us everything we needed to know for an enjoyable stay. We enjoyed the little pool table! We will come again.

Summary: Jamie could not have been more hospitable! And Bodhi also warrants a very special mention for making our dog so very welcome and having so much fun together! We wanted a place to unwind, enjoy quiet, be off our screens and enjoy walks. It was just what we were after! The place was absolutely spotless and has so much character and charm. Perfectly cosy even in the cold snap we were there. Lots of lovely blankets and a brilliant heater to keep us toasty. We loved the muesli that was supplied and would love to come back again!! Jamie was also so helpful about returning an item we left behind

Summary: Highly recommended - Jamie is an excellent host, very welcoming and with great communication. The property was clean, tidy and comfortable, and Jamie had laid on the extra touches (a few chilies and feijoas from the garden) to make us feel at home. We loved our stay and will definitely be back.
