Summary: I stayed in a private double room before and after the Abel Tasman Track. I was able to leave my luggage in a secure closet at reception for free. The hostel felt homey and had a nice community vibe to it. I credit the friendly staff for that. Towels and bar soap were provided, at least for the private double room. The walls are thin so earplugs are recommended depending on how loud your neighbors are. Kitchen was well stocked, free coffee and tea, and of course the free chocolate "pudding" (cake and ice cream) at 8pm. My only complaint is that the Hotels.com confirmation said check in starts at noon (which already seemed oddly early) but reception actually closes during midday and does not re-open until 3:30pm.
