Positive: On arrival we were kept waiting at reception even though the lady saw us arrive, which seemed a bit rude. We were given a quick run down of kitchen usage rules, hot tub rules, car park, and shown to our room door (not inside). The room was clean and comfortable but a little small. Really nice wet room with toiletries. Hotel boosts of LCD TVs with Sky but our TV did not work. The room was noisey from other guests in the communal areas next door. If you get Room 1 expect to be woken up around 6.30am by the staff getting breakfast ready, then expect to be kept awake by the guests chatting while eating breakfast. On check out, the receptionist could not be bothered to ask if everything was OK, so we didn't bother to mention the TV not working. Let someone else complain!! Great location, just a short walk to the lake, shops and restaurants. About one and a half hour's drive from Queenstown and driving the Crown Ranges road is fun, and very scenic.
Negative: OK, so here's the argument. The advert for this place does not mention a shared kitchen, but when you arrive you are told you can use the kitchen at any time, and help yourself to tea, coffee and milk. You are also told there is no kettle, fridge or toaster in your room. Later when reading through the welcome book you find out the shared kitchen is not shared between 7am and 9am when staff are making breakfast for paying guests. You cannot use the kitchen at this time. The wife's agrument: Most people eat breakfast between 7am and 9am, and we were told we could use the kitchen at any time. So how is it fair to now say we can't use the kitchen? We don't have a kettle so we just have to sit here and wait until after 9am for a drink, or go without. As we planned to be on the road before 9am we have to go without. This makes me very cross. My argument: This place is more like a hotel room, and you wouldn't expect to have access to a kitchen in a hotel. The wife's agrument: In that case, you would expect a kettle in the room, and a fridge with milk, like every other place we have recently stayed. I'm still very cross, and thirsty. To date, this argument remains unresolved, so you will have to make up your own mind as to whether the kitchen ban is fair or not. Relatively this place was 50-60 dollars more expensive than any of the other nine places we have recently stayed. This can only be because of location, as our room was much smaller and had no facilities, eg kettle or fridge, like all the other places. Sadly, except for a great location, we would be reluctant to recommend.
Summary: Expensive location. Expect to pay more and get less.

Positive: The room was exactly as promised in the photos; clean, cosy, and quaint. The lodge complex was huge and had lots of communal facilities. We enjoyed using the lounge with fireplace and outdoor hot tub. It had an all round charming aesthetic that felt like being invited into someones home (with plenty of privacy). Staff were excellent and showed us to our room when we arrived. The location was good and is pretty much in the centre of the town. Free parking as well. Highly recommended!
Negative: No issues!
Summary: Delightful lodge in Lake Wanaka. Highly recommended!
