Summary: It gets really hot and humid in Southeastern Virginia in August so for the past few years I’ve planned a road trip in search of cooler weather. My dog whines when she’s left alone and growls even when I am in the room so hotels are a challenge. Luckily VRBO lists quite a few small cabins in the country that work for both of us. I was glad that I had mobile coverage and did not miss wifi too much. This cabin is fully equipped with oven, refrigerator and a small microwave. I had no plans to cook but a full kitchen was appreciated. The shower was slightly larger than on a cruise ship and the hot water supply was quite sufficient. The bath towels were really soft. The second floor loft is strictly for sleeping with two queen and one twin bed. There is a sofa on the ground floor and another sofa on the screened outdoor porch. I visited Cooperstown and the surrounding area as a day trip. The Russian History Museum in Jordanville is highly recommended. I visited Binghamton on another day trip but was disappointed. The most notable thing to visit, the Phelps Mansion, is open Fri-Sun only. The only negative part of the experience was having all the beds on the second floor and the bathroom on the first. Older guys like me do not sleep the whole night and using the stairs was a bother. I could have slept on the couch but my dog gets restless when we sleep close together. The size of the cabin is probably best for 2 people.
