Travel Purpose: leisure
Positive: The location is great and very convenient for the town centre and nearby train station. The adjacent car park (although only four cars can park there). Spacious rooms and a lift, which saves you carrying luggage up and down the stairs.
Negative: Front rooms get the noise from the high street, and back rooms get the noise from the railway. Breakfast is small and a little greasy. You will need to fill up on toast and cereal. Some minor decorating and maintenance issues need addressing to improve the quality.
Summary: Convenient location

Positive: I was offered a full English, and they had a vegan version too (although I settled for toast and cereal). The staff were very friendly and helpful, and the bed was lovely and firm. It was very conveniently located.
Negative: The curtains covered a whole wall, but the window was very small so there was no ventilation and it was hot and stuffy - even with the window open. The paintwork everywhere is old chipped. There was a hole in the bathroom wall where I assume something had been removed. The toilet paper holder was kind of broken, and there was no plug (and I nearly lost a ring down there). There was no hand soap, or shampoo. The bedside lights were useless and only pointed at the floor - not at my book. The lights in the bathroom were gloomy, and in the bedroom a seedy yellow. There were no instructions about getting wi-fi etc, and no minibar/fridge. There was a club next door, which didn't turn off its music until midnight, and the trains were very noisy (but in winter you could at least have the windows shut).
Summary: Tatty and needs some love, but the staff and food were good.

Positive: I was able to park without any problems. The staff were welcoming and the breakfast was adequate.
Negative: The room was a little tired and needs some TLC e.g. the bath outer shell was cracked in two places and there was no plug so couldn’t be used. A couple of the bathroom chrome fixtures were rusty and a sock had been put over the smoke alarm in the bedroom. TV reception was poor and we were only able to see one channel clearly.
Summary: The hotel would appear to have seen better days 🙁
