It was meticulously constructed of hand-hewn Montana timber logs. The 1200sq' Brazilian hardwood deck wraps around the main floor level providing an extraordinary spread for gathering with family and friends while being surrounded by national forest that offers wonderful views of the mountains above and the valley below. The kitchen is complimented by granite counter tops and stainless steel appliances, including a duel fuel Viking gas range. 'The home sits conveniently above the head waters of the 'Gold Medal' Frying Pan river and Ruedi Reservoir. All personal watercraft are welcome. There is plenty of parking space for multiple vehicles and trailers at the cabin. Ruedi Reservoir is one of the best kept secrets in Colorado. It offers more then 220 square miles of boating and open water recreation in the summer. While these two highlights are the more obvious area attractions, it doesn't stop there. The fall season offers some of the best elk and deer hunting in the state. In addition, the winter months invite world class snowmobiling, cross country skiing and any outdoor winter activity that you can imagine, including ice fishing on Ruedi for that dedicated angler. All of this is conveniently nestled in the tranquil and majestic White River National Forest. 'The Cabin' is an exceptionally scenic 25 minute drive from the town of Basalt. Bald eagles, Big Horn sheep, Elk, deer and wild turkeys are a common site.
The town of Basalt offers excellent dining options, several boutique's for the casual shopper and a choice fly fishing outfitters. There is also a General Store in town to pick up your basic essentials. An additional 5 minute drive further down valley is the Willet's Town Center. This popular retail location offers additional shopping, multiple dining options and a list of retailers including Whole Foods market and City Market for stocking up on your complete grocery list. Aspen/Snowmass and the Pitkin county Airport are located, "up valley", approximately 45-50 minute drive away from the cabin.
The roads are maintained during the winter months. However, 4 x 4 vehicles are highly recommend in the Rocky Mountain region.
Once you have discovered this true 'Diamond in the Rough' and what the Frying Pan valley has to offer, we are confident you will return year after year to create lasting memory's with friends and family.

Summary: This home had everything you could possibly want and more. Every amenity was at your disposal, along with the terrific pool table and a beautiful hot tub. We saw lots of wildlife, deer, turkeys, and even a bear. It was absolutely a gorgeous setting and very close to Ruedi Reservoir.

Summary: My husband and I + our dogs spent two weeks at this beautiful, secluded cabin overlooking the Ruedi Reservoir. You get the best of both worlds here — mountains and the reservoir. The cabin was just as described/pictured. Beds were comfortable. Showers were hot with excellent water pressure. Dan, the owner, was communicative and responsive. The kitchen was well-equipped (my husband commented that a chef must own the cabin due to the quality and condition of the knives, iron skillet, & stainless steel pots/pans). There is a massive wraparound deck with epic views. Hot tub is brand new. Wildlife viewing is spectacular (bring binoculars). Stars at night are unparalleled. A few things to note — the cabin is 35-40 minutes away from Basalt, so plan your trips to town accordingly. It’s a lovely scenic drive. There is no cell service once you leave Basalt; the cabin WiFi is strong. There is no A/C and the sun shines directly onto the cabin until 3pm. Keeping the blinds closed on doors & windows helped when temps rise to the 80s. Remember to account for altitude when using the oven — watch anything you bake carefully & reduce temps/end cook times early. Research the Ruedi Reservoir if it’s your first visit; there are no boat rentals, but kayak/SUP rental in Carbondale and multiple day-use areas with rocky beaches/water access. Our favorite for the dogs/swimming was near the Dearhamer Campground. Research hikes in advance, as most are a drive. Loved our stay & hope to return!

Summary: We just returned from an 11-night stay at this amazing cabin and are ready to return! Ruedi Reservoir is about an hour from Aspen...it's a quick drive to Basalt, then about 30-40 minutes up the mountain through a majestic landscape. The cabin is just as advertised and offered plenty of room for our group--we traveled with friends for the first part of the trip, then our son joined us from camp for the second part. Each level offers a bedroom and full bathroom, there are two living areas, a workable kitchen that has everything you might need, and a deck looking out on the most wonderful view. Check-in was simple, and the host was super responsive and helpful when we needed lightbulbs. This place is perfect for relaxation, we spent several days just lounging, reading, enjoying the view and the company. It's also an easy drive to Maroon Bells (the Crater Lake hike is totally worth it), Aspen for shopping or dining, going to Redstone or Marble, and hiking to the old Crytstal City Mill. We also spent a day at the hot springs in Glenwood Springs. Basalt is a cute town and certainly worth exploring--we enjoyed meals at Heather's Savory Pies and Tapas Bar and at Butch's Lobster Shack. There are two grocery stores in Basalt, Whole Foods and City Market (which is a Kroger affiliate), so it's easy to get everything you need to stock the pantry. It was a much-needed break from the heat, and we highly recommend the Cabin at Reudi Shores!

Summary: Beautiful, cozy cabin with stunning views to enjoy. Clean, well stocked and the most comfortable beds. We enjoyed the hot tub under the Colorado sky, as well as the deer, Turkey and two bear sittings! Host was very attentive. Restaurants and grocery stores nearby in Basalt. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and would definitely return to the cabin! *Note: there are security cameras on the property and an additional docusign document is sent before your stay to agree to care, check in, check out, and other requirements to stay. Thank you Dan!

Summary: Second time staying here and it won’t be our last. First, and most important, Dan is the consummate wonderful host. Incredibly quick to respond, took time to check in to make sure everything was perfect, and just wonderful as a host. Cannot recommend him highly enough. Love the location of the property above Ruedi Reservoir. There are neighbors but the property is very secluded and quiet. We loved the daily visits by a doe and her three fawns and had a separate visit by two bucks. If you want peace and quiet, this is the perfect place. The addition of Starlink internet from our previous stay was a nice surprise because it meant not being without phone service since cellular coverage stops just outside of Basalt. And last, but certainly not least, the drive along the Frying Pan River never gets old. If anything, it’s difficult to pay attention to the road. One of the best scenic drives in this part of Colorado. Can’t wait to come back for ski season. Thanks again, Dan!

Summary: This classic mountain home is beautifully furnished, very comfortable, and has wonderful mountain views. The kitchen is well appointed (we cooked four big meals.) The house is nice and private, but the fun town of Basalt is only 20 minutes away. We used the home as a retreat between a day on Aspen mountain and two days of float fishing on the Roaring Fork. Hard to say good-bye!

Summary: My family loved the solitude and views from this wonderful cabin. Daniel was a pleasure to work with and he was very responsive when we had questions about the hot tub and fireplace. The cabin is about 1/2 hour away from Basalt along Frying Pan Road, and we enjoyed the solitude and the scenic drive to get there. While there, we went white water rafting with Elk Mountain Expeditions, and enjoyed the Upper Roaring Fork.

Summary: The location and cabin are amazing, perfect when you want to get out of town into the quite wilderness. This listing loses a star because the hot tub was only partially functional and the owner showed up during the stay to “make sure we were following the hot tub maintenance rules” and complained that the cover was open while we were getting our swimsuits on to go in. Despite what VRBO may say in their ads, people want to be left alone while staying at a property.
