Negative: Cottage was dirty, not equipped for the 4 guests staying, 3 mugs, 3 plates, 2 bath towels. Coffee/tea refill station in reception never replenished, poor restaurant service in the evening. Items on restaurant bill that weren’t delivered to the table. Tried to charge more than the quoted booking.com price which was already high due to the heritage live concerts. Fed back to stand in manager as manager off sick and never heard a thing after waiting 10 days despite being promised a call back. Slapdash and disappointing for the hugely inflated price charged.

Summary: Disappointing, dirty and poor standard for the inflated price.

Positive: Nice touch with the welcome cookies and complimentary g&t at the bar. Big beer garden with a few different areas to relax. Decent dinner and small (if not ordering the full English) but tasty breakfast. Helpful staff at the bar, restaurant and reception.

Negative: The room (loft) was small with not much storage. Small windows and got hot at night. Already addressed at check out - the room was quite dirty - cobwebs, sand in the bath(??), stained bedspread. It wasn’t the charming stay I expected from a place recommended by the Sunday Times.

Negative: The decor wasn’t perfect, big scuffs on the walls and the room was very small compared to the other North Norfolk pubs/hotels we have stayed in.

Summary: A lovely little getaway, but lots of money was spent!

Positive: The location is very nice , staff pleasant and rooms are clean .

Negative: We had previously stayed at The Gin Trap in November 2024, and had the most amazing experience which promoted us to visit again . We arrived on Thursday 21st August 2025 and immediately knew things were not the same . The checking in process which was previously in main reception outside was now in the bar area , and did not seem so personal . The room we had was outside from the main pub which looked lovely but was very small . We booked for dinner on all 3 nights of our stay but where very disappointed with the menu choice , after talking to the staff it appears that they had had a change of owner and a corporate company called “ Chestnut” had taken over . This was not for the better .!!
