Summary: For a nearly 100-year old home this cottage was INCREDIBLY maintained. It has so much charm and was perfect for some hometown time with family and old friends. A couple words of caution for future guests: 1. Request the home to be pre-heated prior to your arrival if you are staying in the winter. The home is old with many original windows so it took nearly 4 hours to reach a comfortable heated temperature on a very mild winter day. 2. Ensure you have 4 wheel drive car or rental if you plan to stay here in snowy months. The house is built into a mountainside and not on a main road. You won’t be able to get out if you get a snow storm and don’t have a winter vehicle. 3. EXTRA firm beds in the bedrooms. We appreciated this but they aren’t for everyone.

Summary: Stayed at the house with some friends for our high school reunion weekend. The house is the quintessential lake Mohawk house. Extremely charming and in excellent condition. Very clean, decorated nicely and well appointed. Great location not far from the plaza. We loved it and had a great time. Only watch-out is the stairs leading up to the house and to the 2nd floor are very steep. Would book again!

Summary: We had a great time staying at this property. The cabin is well equipped, rustic and has fun toys and equipment that our 2 1/2 yr old grandson enjoyed. The surrounding area is rural and nearby Sparta is quaint with fun shopping areas. We would caution parents of young children that there are narrow wood stairs to navigate to access the single beds upstairs as well as a low railing in the upper level that opens to the main living area in the main floor that would be dangerous for under 4 year olds to navigate without supervision.

Summary: We are a family of 8. Parents are 60+ and kids are 30s. We traveled to Sparta for a wedding at Perona Farms. House is charming and clean and well located. One bathroom was a challenge . There are many stairs to climb with luggage so not a good choice for older folks or those with any handicap. A bit light on blankets and towels. Fireplace chimney needs cleaning. Damper was open but house filled with smoke so we couldn’t use it. Kitchen was stocked well. No smoke smoke detectors in bedrooms. Enough chairs for dining but not in living area. Interior stairs very narrow and steep. Caution ! Lovely backyard. Bees nest somewhere in house so always bees flying around. Thank you for sharing your home with us.

Summary: We had a lovely stay to visit family that live in the area. The house is on the older side and we loved it because it reflects the charm and original construction style of the lake. The house was clean, organized and nicely decorated. We had a movie night with the projector, walked to the beach, enjoyed the backyard table for breakfast, saw lots of deer and felt very comfortable. The upstairs can get a bit stuffy during the summer temps, but ample fans were provided. The AC works well for the lower area. Young children and anyone with walking challenges would need help up and down the very steep stairs. We had all the things we needed and felt comfortable. We plan to rent again when we visit next. Thank you!

Summary: I really liked staying here. It is an old house that has been updated with modern fixtures. It feels open and airy and yet cozy with lots of wood. I wouldn't recommend it for anyone having difficulty with stairs. All the stairs are very steep and you have to be careful climbing. The front door (not the red door) is at the top of a very steep wooden staircase with no landing. There is a steep, narrow staircase inside that leads to the basement with the laundry facilities, and you have to be careful not to bang your head as you go up or down. The stairs to the loft are also narrow and steep. The driveway is short and very steep, and got slippery when it rained. The video system provided several good streaming services. It did not allow me to log in using my own account, but that was not a big deal, since so much was available. It could use better speakers. We turned on subtitles for movies because it was sometimes hard to hear what was being said. There were some things that needed maintenance or replacement, such as the window blinds in the living room and dining room. The house does not have air conditioning. That is not a problem in the cooler seasons, but we were there in the summer, and the weather got hot during our stay. Fortunately the house is well insulated and shaded by trees so it got warm but not sweltering, except in the loft where it got pretty hit during the day. The house is very nicely located for the nearby beach and lake access. It is a mile or two from the commercial district, which has some great restaurants and a wonderful ice cream shop. Overall we really liked the house and we had a good stay there. We would stay there again.
