This charming turn of the century cottage has a spectacular view of Lake Macatawa, the Holland Harbor, marinas and all the water activities. These can be enjoyed from the large screened-in front porch that extends across the entire front of the cottage. It is in a resort community of historic cottages established in 1886 and is on both the Michigan and National Historic Registry. As you enter the cottage, you are immediately transported back to the late 1800's resort community atmosphere by the original wood interior and much of the original furniture. The views of Lake Macatawa from the wicker furnished porch, the living room, the dining room and each bedroom further support the feeling of a unique, relaxed, casual and winsome atmosphere.

Summary: The house, in all of its 1890’s glory, has an awesome view of the lake! The screened porch is fabulous. The house is nearly all original and virtually unchanged but has new central a/c and heat. Historic house buffs will love this property. Great location for hiking, biking, boating and swimming. The host is incredibly friendly and very promptly responds to any issues you might have (our “issues” were too trivial to mention.)

Summary: This charming old-world cottage provided a comfortable space to relax and re-connect with family and friends. We particularly loved the view of Lake Macatawa and watched a dingy 'Snipe' regatta with our morning coffee. The short walk to the 'singing sands' is the real reason to come here; magnificent and majestic Lake Michigan.

Summary: I grew up spending summers at a cottage in Ottawa Beach, so renting Jim's place was a beautiful step back in time! Thoroughly enjoyed the peaceful location. The front porch view is truly magnificent! Jim was available if needed, but everything was perfect, so not even necessary. Would love to stay again - thank you, Jim!

Summary: We had a lovely week in Michigan with our family in this beautiful time capsule of a home. Jim is an incredible host who has lovingly appointed each room. Beds are very comfortable. AC works wonderfully. Kitchen is small but well appointed-and there are plenty of spaces to sit and eat. The crowning glory is the screened front porch. Cool and breezy even on hot days. I can't say enough good about this cottage and host. We will be back!

Summary: This stay was all about the front porch and great access to the beach! We had a 2 year old and an infant, so the porch was a perfect place for the adults to be once bedtime rolled around. James was a very kind and accessible host. The cottage itself is a bit rustic, but it suited our needs. The location is truly perfect- everything you need is within walking distance. Logistically, I would say this house works best for one family given the single bathroom. The shower could use a little updating but it worked for us.

Summary: This is a unique opportunity to experience an historic house in a lovely lovely spot. The cottage has been well-maintained and retains its original feel. The kitchen is older but we were able to cook our meals for four with no issue. The porch is the star of the show and why we rented the house in the first place. We spent hours out there with our summer reading and meals. We also enjoyed the hike up to Mount Pisgah and, of course, the wonderful Ottawa beach. It was so nice to be able to walk to the beach and leave car worries behind. It helps one get into the vacation groove. Holland has much to discover — park amenities like pickle ball courts, for instance — but truth be told we let ourselves unwind on the porch most of the time.

Summary: We had fun but Not a lot to do in the immediate area. The cottage had lots of vintage furniture that was quaint but not very comfortable for late evening lounging. We also had some trouble with mice.

Summary: We (7 of us ranging in age from 2 - 69) thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The house is surprisingly large and retains the characteristics and charm of a turn of the century beach cottage. It is within easy walking distance of the General Store, Dune Dogs, and the beach. While at the house, we spent most all of our time on the large screened front porch overlooking the harbor. It was everything we hoped for in a vacation rental.
