Guegon Cottage | Traditional Breton Longère Near Historic Josselin

3 Bedroom Cottage in Guegon, Guégon

La Ville au Tady stands in over 1 acre of gardens. It is a traditional Breton longère, or long-house, built 1868. It has been fully renovated while retaining its charm and character.
Located in a small hamlet in Southern Brittany, the local village of Guegon is just a few minutes drive through scenic country lanes. Within the village you will find several bars, a general store and the essential boulangerie for fresh baked baguettes and croissants.
The area is perfect for exploring on foot or cycling, with a designated cycle route passing through the hamlet. The medieval town of Josselin with its famous chateau, 17th Century buildings, bars and restaurants is an easy 10 minute drive. Brittany’s largest inland lake is located just outside Josselin, with swimming and water sport facilities. Superb beaches are to be found all along the nearby Morbihan coast which is said to have 365 small Islands, one to explore for each day of the year.
There are many interesting small villages and larger towns in the region. Auray is a lovely old town with lots of shops and restaurants, an old port and an excellent Sunday market. Vannes is a large town on the edge of the Gulf of Morbihan with an old quarter bustling with good restaurants and small shops. Excellent markets are held on Wednesdays and Saturdays and a famous jazz festival in July. Carnac has excellent beaches but it is world famous for being an ancient and historic place with over 3,000 prehistoric megalithic stones. There is comprehensive information on places to visit and suggestions for activities on our personal web site (search La Ville au Tady gite).
The cottage stands in over one acre of fenced garden and woods. There are several fruit trees and walnut and sweet chestnut trees to provide welcome shade in the summer months. If vacationing in the autumn, you are welcome to help yourselves to any windfall. There is parking for two cars on a drive at the front. The rear of the cottage affords wonderful views over the garden. A patio at the rear provides an informal seating area for barbecues. A mown path through the grass provides views over surrounding fields and rolling countryside. A charcoal barbecue and garden furniture are provided.

Summary: We enjoyed our stay at "La Ville au Tady". The cottage is located about 4 miles outside Josselin. Many typical French villages in the neighbourhood worth a visit. All amenities were present, and the owner even provided cross-country bikes, but better be physically prepared as the hills can be steep ;-)

Summary: We had a lovely week in this Gite. It’s in a very peaceful location, was very comfortable and had everything we needed. We enjoyed riding the bicycles around the quiet lanes and playing badminton in the amazing garden. We visited nearby Josselin with its beautiful Château and on the Friday evening we ate in one of the restaurants while being entertained with traditional Brittany music and dancing in the town square. A lovely relaxing holiday. Thank you so much.

Summary: What a wonderful away from it all property, exactly what we needed. Unfortunately we were there for just four days, could have stayed for the whole of the summer. Property is very well equipped and very comfortable. The garden wonderful to explore. Particularly liked the use of bicycles, perfect for use along the canal. Weather wasn’t brilliant but had a fantastic thunder storm on the first evening. Not knowing the area it was the perfect place to be able to explore, of which we did, making us want to return and explore some more. Many thanks Martin.

Summary: In the past 10 years, we have stayed at more than 30 properties throughout France, always for a week or longer. In all that time, we have rarely come upon a property as quaint as La Ville au Tady, and we have never dealt with owners as organised and accommodating as Martin and Esther. Their website is complete, their responses are prompt and instructions are comprehensive. La Ville au Tady is fully equipped; it is quietly remote, yet 10 minutes from two hypermarkets; and perfectly placed for day trips across Brittany. We spent autumn nights in front of the fire, and sunny autumn days riding the (supplied) bikes along the magnificent stretches of the canal between Josselin and Saint-Vincent-sur-Oust. We happily recommend La Ville au Tady, and the Selways, to all.

Summary: Fantastic! Its been a wonderful week, and such a shame to have to come home & work. I really have to say I was so very impressed by the cottage. I have never seen a rental so very well equipped. I think the owners have thought of everything. We never wanted for anything. Its a credit to them. A car is essential but the location was ideal, only a few miles from town and yet all around was green countryside. The information pack provided was full and comprehensive. There is so much to do, so many places to see and visit, its almost impossible to get around them all in the brief holiday time. We were blessed with some wonderful weather. Our friends who travelled with us have never experienced such tranquillity and practicality. All in all the week has been a present to us all. Highly recommended

Summary: A beautiful location for our week long stay. The house was as described and as seen in the pictures - very clean. The location was great for our trips to St. Malo, Mount St. Michel and Quiberon. The weather unfortunately was not too cooperative with rain and cool temperatures most of the week. We enjoyed using the bikes and the "third wheel" was great! The kitchen was well equipped and the living and dining room the perfect size for 4 adults and 2 kids.

Summary: Following a week in Paris, we (two retired American couples) rented a car and drove to this charming cottage near Josselin with the aid of the excellent directions provided by the British hosts/ owners of the property. Everything was as described in the more than adequate information presented when we were making our decision about where in the Britainny/ Normandy area we would stay. The common living spaces are large and comfortable; the kitchen is well stocked for gourmet cooking; the beds are comfortable; the baths, laundry, heat, and wood burning stove, are clean and well functioning. The hosts provided plenty of information about day trips, nearby activities, restaurants, walks, shops, etc. Although it was mid-October when we visited, the weather was picture perfect. We loved walking and touring in Josselin and the area right around the house. We took day trips to Mont.St Michel, the Carnac alignments, St. Malo, Dinan and several villages nearby. The owners were fantastic communicators before our visit. The friendly caretaker was available by phone when we had a couple questions. This was the perfect follow-up place to be after a hectic week in Paris. We totally relaxed here. The Saturday Farmer's Market in Josselin is fabulous!! We bought a freshly roasted "farmer's" organic chicken, fresh veggies, fresh cheese and bread, came home and had a fabulous outdoor picnic dinner with great French wine. We would definitely recommend this lovely cottage for families, and couples traveling together. We're 65ish and there were only two downsides: first, it is hard to buy gas/ petrol if you don't have a special card (but people are nice and they will let you use their card if you give them cash), and the bathroom for our bedroom (NOT the master bedroom, but the 2nd bedroom) was down a flight of stairs, but that wasn't a big problem for us. This is a real gem of a place.

Summary: We stayed in this lovely house for a week. The location was quiet but with the village and the town nearby there was everything that we needed. The weather wasnt fabulous, but we were cozy and warm inside. The house well maintained and all equipment was in good condition. The detailed description that the owners provided meant that we knew exactly what to expect. We explored the lovely villages that were nearby and went further afield to the prehistoric sites on the coast. A great stay and we would stronly recommend this characterful home. (There were only 2 Aussies this time.)
