The house is well-located to enjoy numerous outdoor activities and to explore Carcassonne, Rennes-le-Chateau, Cathar castles and other places of interest. Ski resorts and the Mediterranean coast are both approximately 1 hour away.
The house has been sensitively restored to retain its charm, and to expose original features such as the beams and wooden floors, and the historic murals on the front facade The accommodation is flexible with 2 bedrooms sleeping up to 6 people, and is suitable for year-round use with woodburner and electric heating.
On the ground floor the entrance hallway with antique-tiled floor leads to the sitting room furnished with 2 comfy sofas, woodburning stove, a TV/DVD player, video library, books, board games and a folder with local maps and information.
The kitchen beyond is well-equipped and has a central oak table seating six, a large fridge/freezer, dishwasher and electric cooker with gas hob, and a washer/drier. French windows lead onto a west-facing balcony with table, chairs and parasol, perfect for enjoying an aperitif while watching the swallows dive and the sun sink over the mountains.
Upstairs is the shower room, master bedroom with king-size double bed and washbasin, and a family bedroom which has bunk beds and a sofa bed (which can be made to provide a second double bed if required).
Belvianes has a small playground and large level grassy area (suitable for ball games) close to the house.
There is a cafe/bar within a short walk, and the baker's van passes the door twice daily (there is no longer a shop). The market town of Quillan can be reached in 5 minutes by car or by scenic footpath along the bank of the Aude. The town has several supermarkets, a choice of bars and restaurants, an internet cafe, outdoor swimming pool and in summer regular music festivals and night markets take place in the square.

Summary: The house exceeded our expectations with its mixture of original features and modern facilities. Hot water always available, lovely shower, large very comfortable double bed, a large collection of personal things that made it feel more like a real home...books, CDs, games, maps and guides etc. Well equipped kitchen with everything we could think of. Quiet village with few people about which suited us very well. Lovely weather in October but there were electric heaters in every room had we needed them. Good location for hill, riverside and woodland walks, limestone gorges, Cathar Castles. Shopping and dining out opportunities in Quillan a couple of miles away.

Summary: We enjoyed our stay in this small, quiet village house because it is so well-situated for the kind of varied holiday we enjoy - lots of convenient walks, castles close by and interesting towns within reach. The house was entirely suited to our needs just as a base for activities. It has everything you need - (especially for English visitors, as there is a toaster and a cafetière). I think we would have found it rather small with a family, particularly in bad weather, but ideal for a couple. The swallows were lovely In the evenings, but the balcony is not very private for those concerned about that. A thinner alternative to the heavy duvet would be good. Fantastic collection of books! The local contact was relaxed and not at all over - helpful or intrusive, which we value.

Summary: A wonderful, cozy home in a lovely village. Comfortable bedrooms, clean airy bathroom, and the most wonderful kitchen balcony for sitting and listening to the birds. Easy access to multiple hiking trails and a good central location for exploring the Cathar country.

Summary: As described, this house is a traditional village dwelling, very skilfully renovated to retain as many features as possible whilst providing modern amenities The equipment is what you would expect in a home, rather than a holiday let. For example, there are shelves full of books, many CDs and lots of kitchen equipment. As should be expected in a region that has very hot weather, the windows are small and shuttered. At first we found it rather dark, though there are plenty of lamps. The small balcony is a valuable addition. Parking in a large car park a few steps up the road was easy. The village of Belvianes was delightful, and Quillan provided for all our needs, as well as being perfectly situated for exploring the region, which was really beautiful. There was plenty of good walking as well as Cathar castles to explore. We could easily have spent a fortnight here, and hope to return. Charlotte was very helpful and quick to reply to queries. We did not meet the key-holder.

Summary: It was a nice place: Beautiful landscape and a nice clean house with a beautiful balkony and a good equipped kitchen. Good for a family with children, who sleep in the bunk bed. Ideal for visiting the catharer castls and gorges around. We received a lot of infomations of the house owner by mail before starting in the hollidays

Summary: We had a lovely 2 week stay. Belvianes is a lovely tranquil village and we had very friendly neighbours. Excellent base for exploring area. Pyrenees (< 1 hour) and Mediterranean (< 2hrs) well within reach. Good walks direct from village. Nice walk along river to Quillan. Cottage is very good value and had everything we needed. Lovely views out from balcony over the village and surrounding hills. We really enjoyed the chance to do our own cooking and cottage has an excellent supply of cookery books! Lots of info provided with ideas for walks, excursions and places to eat. Very happy to recommend it!

Summary: The four of us (including boys of 12 & 14) thoroughly enjoyed our stay this summer, both for the house and the surrounding area itself. Charlotte and Di do all that they can to make your visit memorable, e.g. filling the fridge as we arrived late on Independence day! The house itself is truly unique and has everything you need. We spent most of our time in the kitchen and on the terrace overlooking the mountains. Absolutely lovely. The village is quiet, surrounded by views and walks, with a picturesque walk into Quillan (taxis were easy also). We also had regular trips to nearby peak top castles (jaw dropping), swimming lakes, walks, villages, towns and restaurants. We also white river rafted down the Aude, just up the road, which we all loved. All in all, very memorable, very enjoyable.
