Positive: Such a beautifully decorated and updated boutique onsen hotel. The welcome drinks were nice, especially the local wine. The outdoor green pod baths were unique and very comfortable. The dinner and breakfast were some of the best hotel experiences we’ve ever had. The service was very attentive and the presentation was gorgeous. They even cleared snow off our car in the morning before checking out.

Negative: It’s kind of hard to find the hotel and parking areas when all of the names are written in kanji. Google Translate doesn’t help if you can’t read kanji so a romanisation of the hotel name would be beneficial.

Positive: Very relaxing! Absolutely loved using their lovely onsen daily.

Negative: We loved everything, Be aware that you will not find western style soft beds or food. It’s a true Japanese experience, including yukatas to wear.

Positive: Everything about it. The moment you enter the Ryokan, how welcoming the staff, being served nice cold welcome drinks and hot towels as the check in process happened at the sofa and not at a counter. This Ryokan though small in size provides the homely feel. The meals (dinner and breakfast) were both excellent. We enjoyed it very much.The public bath was nicely decorated too. The owners of the Ryokan definitely placed a lot of efforts to it's design, decorations etc. My husband and I wished we were staying another night instead of our overnight stay. We will return.

Positive: This is an amazing property run by attentive and kind staff who provide excellent and seamless service. We booked one of the rooms (Anemone) with a private onsen tub and it was so relaxing and peaceful. The beds were also so comfy and the massage chair was a fun surprise! We loved the cozy yet elegant decor throughout and all amenities available to guests enhanced the stay, especially the evening wine/whiskey in the lobby, and the chance to use a variety of colorful yukata. The staff, especially the young woman who welcomed and served us most meals, was phenomenal and so kind in explaining all the dishes and pointing out local specialities. Speaking of the food, it's delicious! Each kaiseki dinner was carefully crafted and a true joy. The property is a short walk (15 min) or taxi from Kaminoyamaonsen station and was convenient for our day trips to Zao and Yamadera. Do yourself a favor and visit this gem.
