Welcome to the unspoiled heavenly Hamakua coastline. Just minutes from downtown Hilo, yet in the breathtaking heavens above Hilo Bay, you will be surrounded by sweeping vistas of ocean and pasture right out of a painting. Enjoy our beautiful and spacious 2 bedroom Ohana situated right next to an amazing waterfall with a private swimming hole and over a half mile of private riverfront nature preserve. The climate here at 1,600 feet on Mauna Kea is tempered to perfection, warm and balmy days and cool pleasant nights are unsurpassable. Native birds, especially the Hawaiian hawk make their home here in the native Koa forest.
You will be renting our spacious and kid friendly Ohana unit, which is the entire downstairs of our 3200 square feet house. The alpine tropical beauty that will surround you here is unsurpassable. One of the very private waterfalls and swimming holes is right next to the house, and unlike other locations, the river runs right through the middle of our property, so we can offer you access to over 1/2 mile of private stream front with incredible vistas that rival National Parks. And most of all, on our farm and retreat, kids can be kids, there's a ton of space to run around and play, pet our goats and puppies, and splash in the river.
Our space is a great space for families with kids and for kid friendly travelers. You will be a guest in our Ohana on our retreat. Since we live upstairs, it's very likely that you will see us around. We pride ourselves in our Aloha and we will welcome you on our retreat as family. We have two children who aren't shy, and we love to host other families. Kids are most definitely welcome.
Our retreat is situated at 1,600 feet elevation which tempers the tropical heat and provides an incredibly pleasant climate with a temperature range of 72-80F during the day and 62-66F at night. Expect a mix of sunshine, clouds and rain pretty much every day. This is a Cloudforest, so also expect a mix of sun and rain showers, and occasional mist.
We live in a beautiful pastoral part of Hamakua Coast just North of Hilo at 1,600 feet elevation where the climate is perfect with incredibly pleasant balmy days and cool nights. You will be comfortable in shorts and T-shirt and you will not need AC. Even though we are only 12 minutes drive from lively downtown Hilo, you will feel like you are on a secluded retreat in the mountains overlooking the ocean, complete with waterfalls, swimming holes and nature preserve.
You will need a car to get around, there is no public transportation available in Hilo.

Summary: Our kids absolutely loved this trip! The farm has its own private waterfall and swimming hole. Our boys also enjoyed running around and playing with the kids at the farm. Great for a family!

Summary: We really enjoyed the beautiful property just North if Hilo. The drive up the mountain was a windy, paved road. Takes about 20 minutes to get up to about 1600 foot elevation. This made for cooler sleeping. I actually closed the windows at night because the frogs get pretty loud. This is a working farm so if a little duck poop outside bothers you, it may not be your place. The waterfall and creek are very nice. My only complaint would be that you pretty much had to sleep on their children's schedule because they are quite noisy above you. Up by 7AM! They do have a small cabin on the property also so I would recommend that but I didn't see the inside and I heard it was smaller.

Summary: We loved our stay here. The property and waterfall are beautiful. The kids and adults loved to feed the goats, visit the cows, turkeys and the ducks. The house is comfortable and well equipped. We all slept more here than we have in a long time. This is a perfect place for families with children. Lots of room to roam and play! Summary: We had a great stay at the farm. The kids loved feeding the goats and swinging on the swing and bouncing on the trampoline. We had great weather so we went on walks and runs up the the street. We loved falling a sleep to the sounds of the water fall. Great place for a family to stay. Michelle and Axel were always available and checking in on how everything was going. They had some great recommendations on places to eat and beaches to take the kids too. Would definitely stay here again.

Summary: We had a great time at this property! The waterfall is a little hike from the house and is beautiful. My kids had a wonderful time feeding the goats. We loved the fresh milk and eggs that were in the refrigerator when we arrived.

Summary: We had a short but super memorable stay in August 2019. The property is absolutely stunning. My kids listed swimming in the waterfall and feeding the goats their top memories from visiting the big island. Axel and Michelle are incredibly thoughtful hosts and added many personal touches that made us feel very welcome from the coffee/tea and milk to the personal welcome. Beds were very comfortable and we really enjoyed our stay!

Summary: We had a difficult time pulling our kids (3 boys, ages 15, 13 and 4) away from the beautiful outdoors at this property so we could go explore the Hilo area. They loved spending time with the animals and helping feed them. They enjoyed the trampoline and the hike down to the waterfall. We took a short swim in the waterhole by the waterfall and found the water there quite refreshing and tranquil. (Be careful if you decide to go in as some of the rocks can be slick!) The Australian couple housesitting for the owners were very nice and pleasant to converse with. We appreciated the board games and puzzles made available to guests and put them to good use after the sun set. We would stay here again if we ever decide to return to Hilo and were glad we chose to stay here instead of in town as the town is only a short drive away.
