Summary: Our family had a very nice stay for eight days in the house, village and region. The nearby facilities, like bakery and grocery store, made the stay very agreeable. The area and region has a lot to offer. The apartement is spacious, at the first floor and with all the equipment needed. We would be happy to come back. There were some initial contact problems, which is reflected in the rating, but as soon as we had contact, it all worked out in the very best way.

Summary: Reservation was very easy , lots of communication with the owner before our arrival . The village has local shops . Every morning, one of us would go to buy the croissants at boulangerie and by the time he returned coffee was ready. The house is in the middle of the village . Very comfortable accommodation with lots of light , good linen and towels, kitchen stocked with minimum needed. Lots of windows and doors we did not suffer from the heat. We will return.

Summary: As two couples, we had a lovely stay in this well equipped and spotlessly clean two bedroom, ground floor flat. It was very well located in the little village of Saint Remy sur Durolle....easy walking distance to the village centre with its wonderful Boulangerie and Boucherie. The village is nestled in beautiful countryside with a fabulous lake on its outskirts. It is a peaceful base and very well positioned to explore towns further afield such Vichy, Theirs, Clermont Ferrand. Nardege, the property manager was very welcoming and was available to assist if required. We very much enjoyed our stay.

Summary: We found the house extremely comfortable: a very pleasant and spacious home from home, with everything we needed and in a convenient location. Nadege the housekeeper welcomed us with home made biscuits and we lacked for nothing. The area was stunning and we enjoyed many beautiful walks in the mild, dry weather. We went up Puy de Dome by train, but walked up Puy de Pariou and this was probably our highlight, because of the stunning views. We also did several local walks and found the information we obtained from the Livradois- Forez National Park information centre at St Gervais sous Meymont invaluable. We bought a book of suggested walks from there. We loved Thiers and had a wonderful meal at La Belle Excuse. In fact, we fell in love with the whole region because of the variety of the beautiful landscape and the richness of the wildlife. We will never forget the wood full of cyclamen near Donat or the view from the top of La Roche de Volpe near Ambert. We would highly recommend a holiday here. Thank you Anne Marie.

Summary: We loved St Remy! The accommodation was comfortable and we had everything we wanted. A small terrace, surrounded by a yew hedge, was ideal for eating outside. The bread shop was a two minute walk and one of the two small supermarkets stocked wonderful local butter. The lake is a 5 minute drive ( or short walk ) and has restaurants/ cafes. We were a little early in the season for evening openings, and that also applied to the Pizzeria in the village, which was actually being refurbished. There is a hotel/ restaurant in the centre of the village, but this was having some serious renovation work, and we were not entirely certain as to whether it was going to reopen as a hotel, or being converted into flats. However, Thiers is only 5 miles away if you wanted to eat out. There are numerous walks from the village, and around the lake. Do take the electric cog railway up the Puy de Dome, as the views are fantastic. Or, of course, you could always walk up!! The whole area is very picturesque and the mountain scenery is superb.

Summary: Four of us visited for the first time the Auvergne and we are so glad we chose this village and this lovely house to stay at. The village still has individual shops for everything as it used to be. No supermarkets here . The cakes at the bakery are out of this world . Easter is a quiet time to be in France. Ee enjoyed visiting the castles around the area . We had wonderful long walks in the woods outside the village. The house is most comfortable . Weather was cool in the evening outside but we were in a cocoon inside as the house is well insulated. I recommend spending time in this home and village and we hope to come agin next year.

Summary: Dear Anne, I just wanted to tell you that we had a really good holiday in St Remy last week. The house was very comfortable and the weather much better than we had any right to expect - there was really only one day that was a complete washout, the Tuesday (I see wet public holidays are not just a British tradition!) and Thurs & Fri it was very summery (30C). So we were able to do a lot of sightseeing both in the Livradois Forez area and in the Volcanoes National Park. Thank you

Summary: Dear Anne, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay in your house in St Remy. Nadege was very helpful - and thank you for allowing us to have some heating on in the evenings for the first couple of days as it certainly didn't feel like summer at the time!! Fortunately the weather did pick up as the week progressed and we had some very enjoyable visits to the beautiful countryside. Our "highlights" were le Puy en Velay (well worth the drive), le Mont Dore and le Puy de Sancy (although I wasn't courageous enough to go up in the cable car!) and a very pleasant walk around the Parc de la Drosera and its miniature buildings. We also enjoyed walking around Thiers and bought a variety of kitchen knives. Thank you once again for all the helpful information - we will certainly recommend your house to friends if they are thinking of spending time in the Auvergne. Best wishes Ian and Veronica

Summary: Hello Anne Marie The Auvergne is now one of our favourite places in France. It is very scenic, very peaceful. The people are extremely friendly. The food was first class and cheeses were excellent and the Auvergne wine was very good also. Your home is of a very high standard and we were very pleased with the accommodation. Facilities and equipment and everything we needed was there. The market and the boulangerie were very good and for shopping we used the Champion in La Monnerie. Weather was very hot at the start but we got a couple of overcast days which were nearly welcome. Thank you for booking La Vielle Auberge. We went there Sunday which was exceptionally warm and we had a very good meal. We went to Vichy on two days and had an enjoyable day in Place du Dome. We ate in Table d’Antoine which was probably our best meal. There was a fish dish which we had which was called filet de maigre which seems to translate a lean fish. The best restaurant near the apartment by a long way was Auberge du Palais in Celles sur Durolle. We ate there two nights. This was recommended by an English couple in your notes and she was right when she said the description of the meals do not do justice to the dishes. The chef was very helpful in explaining the dishes. We also ate in Chez la Mere Depalle which was good but not as good as the Auberge du Palais. We had a couple of pizzas from the Pizzaoille which were very nice and the staff there were very friendly. There were some very pleasant walks at the Lac and also the Valle des Rouets. Also the view from Calvaire was excellent. We also visited Charroux which was very pleasant but quiet on the day we visited. The paper mill in Ambert was also enjoyable. For our first two nights we stayed near Sauxillanges in Auberge des Liards. We would strongly recommend this for someone looking for a stopover in the Southern Auvergne. Very good accommodation and the food is organic and very tasty. One suggestion that we might make would be to have a gite journal in St Remy for everybody to complete. Finally, thank you very much for all your assistance and all the details you sent us which were very helpful. We will certainly be recommending the apartment and the Auvergne as a place to visit. We hope to enjoy some indian summer in cannes during our next holiday this year. Regards, David & Máire
