3 Bedroom Villa in Ragusa

Are you looking for a holiday where you want to enjoy absolute relaxation, breathe the clear and unspoiled air of the Sicilian countryside away from the smog, the confusion, any noise or disturbance and sip a good glass of Sicilian wine in swimming costume by the pool and listen the birds singing you good morning?
Villa Castiglione 1863 is excatly what you need!
Ancient home of a Sicilian aristocratic family, immersed in the Sicilian countryside between kilometers and kilometers of stone walls, just 6 km from Ragusa, Villa Castiglione, set of Commissioner Montalbano, stands at 640 meters above sea level in a very airy area and offers exclusively for guests a large house built in the eighteenth century, a large 13x7 swimming pool, exclusive to guests who book, located on a large garden with lawn and a park of 18 thousand square meters with hundreds of ornamental plants and typical local trees. At the center of the park stands an immense and majestic century-old maritime pine that reaches 50 meters in height if not more. Beyond the park you will see a wonderful view towards the Hyblean hinterland and beyond, also the distant Etna volcano. A beautiful feeling of absolute mastery towards what is around, experienced by each of our visitors.
Furnished in a refined style and with a delicate taste that deserves such a home and embellished with pitch stone floors and a double bedroom with the "majolica" of Caltagirone, the House consists of a kitchen that incorporates the ancient style of Sicilian kitchens with the stone-paved oven, the stone sink with copper taps, all filled with kitchen, refrigerator and appliances such as microwave, kettle, toaster, coffee machine, washing machine and the latest generation dishwasher. We continue with the Entrance Hall where we will welcome you upon your arrival with a welcome drink with a buffet tasting of typical local products, ranging from sweet to savory to local wine.
A large dining room with 6 seats, equipped with satellite TV and HI-Fi system and DVD player, leads us to the red lounge, where important meetings took place at the time. From the living room you reach the terrace overlooking the Pino park. The three bedrooms with courtesy towel sets, antique furniture typical of the Sicilian tradition and air conditioning. Air conditioning it's in all the rooms of the house.
Two complete bathrooms recently renewed with shower box, shower gel and shampoo set, hair dryer phone.
As said, the house is surrounded by 50 hectares of land overlooking the Ragusa hinterland and the Etna volcano, from the classic "stone walls" of the Ragusa countryside that divided one feud from another. We have four large courtyards, a church where the usual Sunday mass took place until the mid-1960s and an 18,000 square meter park with a centuries-old maritime pine surrounded by plants and dried fruit trees such as almonds, walnuts. One of the four courtyards leads first to a room and two other bathrooms serving the pool area, then right to the garden equipped with a 13x7m swimming pool with hydromassage, with blue beds for lying down and sunbathing comfortably, a gazebo where you can if necessary, have lunch or dinner or even talk, and many games to entertain the children both inside the pool and outside on the lawn, with inflatables, mattresses and sports accessories.
Provided with free parking, the Villa is located above all as mentioned 6 km from Ragusa (5 minutes by car), 7 km from Comiso airport, 150 meters from a farmhouse offering typical dishes such as ricotta, sausage, Ragusa provola, local wine and many other delicacies. At 500 meters the restaurant and pizzeria "Alla corte di Bacco".
The IperCoop ibleo shopping center with a supermarket, tobacconist, clothes and souvenirs is of considerable importance at 1 km. Continuing between the baroque cities of Unesco heritage, the Villa is 10 minutes from Ragusa Ibla, the "Vigata" of Montalbano, 20 minutes drive from Modica and Scicli and from the nearest beaches, located in Marina di Ragusa and Punta Secca, the "Marinella" of Montalbano "and 5 km from the Donnafugata Castle where you can admire the famous collection of the" Arezzo di Trefiletti "family that belonged to our great-grandfather. Noto and Siracusa are 45 minutes away by car. Catania airport is 100 km away. It is ideal for long stays of 3-4 weeks and as said, well located for visiting the entire province of Ragusa and Syracuse
About the Commissioner Montalbano, two entire episodes were filmed inside the Villa: "Il Gatto e il Cardellino" and "A diary of '43".
Ideal for families with children, young couples or friends who want to spend their holidays together.

Summary: What an amazing property! Antonio and his mother welcomed us with beautiful local cakes, cheeses, bread, and fruit, and gave us a wonderful tour of the house. It is a magical place to stay. Very close to groceries and other shopping, the kitchen is well supplied and everything works perfectly. There is lots of hot water, and the wifi is strong throughout the property. The estate is a marvel, and even though we didn't swim (we managed to be there during a stormy few days), the pool area is gorgeous. We highly recommend the Villa Castiglione!

Summary: Villa Castiglione is a trip back in time, and it's not a recreated piece of the past - it's genuine in every possible way, except of course, such things as the spotlessly clean pool, the bathrooms and the appliances (we even used the washing machine once). Everything else - the time-polished slabs of the front yard, the ancient stone wall fences, the stone planter boxes - looked and felt so authentic, as if it was taken from a museum. We spent only three days there, and were very sad to leave. The villa was so beautiful, we were reluctant to leave every morning, though there's a ton to see within a short drive. We just wanted to linger a little more, to take a few more pictures or make another video. Privacy: we were the only guests, and enjoyed the huge apartment on the second floor, with a separate door, kitchen and 2 bathrooms. It has 1 master bedroom plus 2 more very spacious bedrooms, a study room with beautiful antique furniture, a dining room with a pretty old china cabinet filled with figurines, and a kitchen equipped with everything one might need to cook a serious meal, including an electric citrus juicer, teapot, etc. The bedroom closet had over a dozen towels and extra sheets/blankets. The host: Antonio went overboard in his hospitality. His mother prepared a welcome snack that could count for a whole dinner. Antonio and his mother greeted us upon arrival and answered all our questions. Antonio gave us info on beaches, supermarkets, and towns to visit. He is a true patriot of beautiful Sicilia, and is very attached to the villa that has been in his family's possession for centuries. Location: the villa would be a perfect place for an unforgettable wedding or family gathering. It is located in a very secluded area just outside of Ragusa, yet it is easily and quickly accessible from the major highway.

Summary: Our group of six really enjoyed staying at Villa Castiglione in July. After we arrived, the host family welcomed us with freshly cut melon, smoked cheese, ricotta tarts and other pastries, which we really appreciated. The villa and grounds, including a beautiful pine tree, are truly impressive. The accommodation on offer is a large apartment taking up most of the upper floor of the villa. The interior has many features including original tiled floors and a handsome black stone fireplace. It’s clear that you’ve stepped into a family home with a rich history. The villa’s terrace is a lovely spot to have breakfast or to look at the night sky. An outdoor dining table would be a welcome addition to the terrace. The pool area is large enough for everyone to have their own space if they want it – there’s grass and the shade of trees, all surrounded by beautiful dry-stone walls, trees and shrubs. Beaches are within easy reach by car and we went kitesurfing whenever there was wind. There’s a shopping centre five minutes’ drive away plus there’s a fantastic farm shop very close and a family-run restaurant that serves fantastic pizza. The villa and grounds are exposed so it was not uncomfortably hot during our stay and the villa was generally cool inside. Sometimes it was nice to wear something warm in the evening. The host family is very pleasant and down-to-earth. There are two lovely dogs in the grounds, plus goats, hens, a cat and a peacock. Someone turned up daily to clean the pool and take care of the plants and animals, but otherwise we had the run of the place. We’ll definitely be returning.

Summary: We stayed four weeks in this villa and had a great time enjoying the house, garden, pool and amazing views. When we first arrived we were a bit disappointed since we had been told there were no other houses or people living there. In fact the part that is rented out as a villa is a big apartment on the second floor. Antonio, belonging to the family and very helping and sympathetic, is living downstairs. There is also two other apartments, one which is being rented out. So don't expect to be alone. The grounds are also shared with dogs, cats, goats, peacocks, hence, a turtle etc which was a much welcome surprise for our kids. Especially the 10 puppies! There are no AC or jazucci as was indicated in the add that now seam to be missing. The pool is however very big and is cleaned every day. It was very hot when we were there but we managed with fans. The house is a stonehouse and the ceilings are high so it didn't get too warm. The hosts are extremely hospitable and offered us a buffet of local products upon arrival, bought a cake for our baby's first birthday and sweets for our guests. They answer directly on any questions and Antonio not only offered us a free tour on Donnafugata castle but also took us on a walk showing us the grounds. We loved the apartment, almost like a castle and a big terrace we enjoyed since the garden is a short walk away. The kitchen could have been better done, almost no space to work on and a gas oven. But hey the property is from the 1830's! Also we had some space issues with all the small decorations everywhere, beautiful but not much space for our stuff and we were afraid of breaking anything. We had some friends visiting and it worked out fine. Just bear in mind that the bedrooms are connected so you have to go through every room to reach the last bedroom. There are only one bathroom and toilet but fortunately one by the pool as well. The area was nice although the white plantations is a ugly look while driving downhill. We especially liked Punta Secca and the Noto region. Ragusa Ibla and the other baroque cities are worth visiting. Too bad you can't take walks outside the house since there is only a big road with heavy intense traffic on it. The beaches are 25 minutes away. In all we had a great stay although we didn't expect it to be an apartment. We can highly recommend it but bear in mind that there might be a party by the pool in the night/early morning!

Summary: Beautiful peaceful villa, warm hospitality, elegantly restored on the outside whilst retaining traditional character inside. Great pool, good location for visiting most of south east Sicily. One of the owners lives on the ground floor, but unless you seek him out you wouldn't know, your privacy is respected. Will definitely be back.

Summary: As a family of four we spent a fantastic two weeks at Villa Sortino Trono. This charming old farmhouse stands in its own enormous grounds surrounded by countryside, and yet the supermarket and shops of Ragusa are five minutes’ drive away. The walled garden which houses the pool was perfect for taking it easy, with lots of sunbeds and seating and shady trees. If you wanted the beach, Punta Secca or Punta Scoglitti are both 25 minutes away with nice golden sand and there are plenty of beautiful baroque towns and villages to explore along the way. A big thank you to Giovanni and his family who looked after us, supplied us with home grown figs, lemons and lemon tea and even bought me a locally made cake for my birthday! I would certainly recommend the villa for families and we would happily return ourselves another year.

Summary: We spent two amazing weeks at the villa with our three children (14, 13, 10 years). The villa offers an exclusive and secluded base to explore the surrounding baroque towns (e.g. Ragusa Ibla, Modica) and stunning sandy beaches (e.g. Punta Secca, Sampieri, Marina di Ragusa) all within 35 minute radius. We also loved tonsimply laze at the beautiful pool. The children were delighted with the use of many pool toys and inflatables. The owners, Giovanni and his family, were very attentive and kind. The villa is clean, well maintained and fully equipped with all you could need to make you feel at home, The close shopping centre is very handy. The sun rises and sun sets are unforgettable; the old church remains and the big tree add to the retreat experience. The gentle breeze is very welcome in the summer heat. It can be windy at night as it is high on a mountain, so bring warm clothing! We highly recommend this villa for families and others who are seeking a luxurious and relaxing holiday in a private setting. Thank you Giovanni for a most memorable holiday
