Positive: It's a utterly beautiful and big house in the historic centre of the city. Truly a welcoming host who's always happy to assist you in any way he possibly can. Ample room to relax (or work) and even a top terrace overlooking the city. The room I was in was perfect with a comfortable bed, a nice bathroom and very good shower with hot water. I definitely would recommend this place. It's authentic, quietly located and nevertheless pretty close to the center (10 tot 15 minutes walk). In short: a home away from home.

The house is a jewel which was renovated with thought through details- giving a unique experience. A place you cannot find a second time with amazing terrace and the best view. Positive: I give this place 20 stars out of 10, that's how amazing it was. This place is like staying in a royal palace. It's a 100 year old house that was built by a wealthy family and lovingly restored by an Italian architect who is also an exceptional host. Ivan made me feel totally at home and very comfortable during my stay. The beautiful architecture and the original wood flooring, woodwork, ironwork, and tiles make this place a once in a lifetime experience that frankly should cost much more than he is charging. The views of the mountains from my bedroom and the beautiful terrace are breathtaking. Surprisingly, because the rooms face the back of the building it is surprisingly quiet for Medellin, much quieter than when I staying in El Poblado. My time at Villa del Prado was very relaxing, and Ivan went above and beyond to make sure I had everything I needed and even accompanied me twice into the city to help me find what I was looking for. An experience like this is exceptional and you will be very happy if you choose this place. Very highly recommended for everyone.

Positive: My fiance and I only eat one meal a day, so we never had any breakfast on the property, we always had lunch in town or a couple of dinners we cooked on location which was really nice considering having the upstairs terrace to enjoy a romantic dinner setting that is second to none!! That is only if you can cook your own meals of course but wine or a good book/computer can suffice with a view like The Villa's. Ivan was the most excellent host and owner of the property, it is a super relaxing environment very much due to Ivan and Isabellea's wonderful laid back easy-going personalities. We spent a good deal of time getting to know them through numerous conversations and those couple of dinners I mentioned earlier later in our stay. I will note that staying at the Villa De Prado experience is like staying at the beautiful property of a good friend that you're going to visit. Ivan has a great way of being present and accessible in public areas like the kitchen/main dining court area since it is his house and you need to eat, drink coffee, and read the daily news, so you get to breeze in and out as you stop to chat or get involved in a conversation of many topics. Taxis would be the best form of getting around because the Villa is on an incline going up the mountain from the city center and it is about a third to a half mile walking up or downhill to the city center but we walked it every day so it's doable if you're in good health/shape. We ate at the restaurant/bakery Versailles a cafeteria-style place (Argentinian owned & established 60 years ago) that had amazing lage and flaky empenadas for only 5000 COP!! That's a dollar & twenty-seven cents USDA which was incredible!!! Of course, we tipped our favorite waiter Christian very well to make up the difference ( When I only ate them for a complete meal), of the inexpensive filling and delicious empanadas that were the best she and I ever had!

Positive: The restored villa has sensational views over the patios. There is a functional kitchen should you wish to cook. Our room was comfortable and the WiFi was good. The host is exceptionally helpful. Ivan helped us with taxis, directions and recommendations.

Negative: This area sees few tourists but I prefer to see the real side of cities. It’s gritty. There are a lot of street people and garbage pickers. The local shops are fortified with bars and security. If you are squeamish, stay elsewhere We had no trouble but it didn’t feel like a place that invited a walk alone at night.

Positive: Guest House Villa del Prado is really like a rare precious gem in the city center of Medellin, a true work of art and labour of love . It is a beautiful heritage property lovingly restored by the owner, with a large terrace overlooking the mountains surrounding the city ( what a view!!!); cozy and stylish breakfast area; an enclosed patio to relax and enjoy the garden ( with pineapple plants too!); plus a few more communal rooms, including the kitchen. After a busy day in the city it feels like an amazing oasis of peace and quiet. I thoroughly enjoyed staying there. It is in a good area of the city, with a magnificent cathedral close by, as well as metro station, shopping areas, Plaza Botero, Museo of Antioquia and more, within 10-15 minutes walk. The area of the city is interesting , if you want to have a taste of different sides of the city, not just touristy areas. I definitely tried to stay away from overcrowded and noisy tourist areas, and this was a great choice. The owner Ivan is very friendly and very helpful with his advice on local places of interest and travel suggestions. It was my first time in Colombia, and Villa del Prado was the perfect home to stay at and explore the city from. Highly recommended!
