1 Bedroom Cottage in Yalikavak, bodrum

Private, classic Bodrum village house & private pool. View of hills and Aegean Sea.
This village house is of traditional stone, with 50 cm (20 inch) thick walls and built mid-20th century. It is located near the Bodrum village of Yalikavak and less than 20 minutes to Bodrum city. Standing high and above the other houses in the village allows views of the mountains, the sea, plus the harbour and marina of Yalikavak. The sunset is unobstructed and superb. The location on the North side of the Peninsula affords cool breezes. The house has an extensive veranda/patio where one can relax or have a slow meal while taking in the views. Entering the house, to the left, is the Living Room with an 'L' shaped, 2 pieces, wide sofa. It is possible for extra guests to sleep here. The kitchenette adjoins. To the right, is the master bedroom. From the master bedroom, you enter a small dressing room that leads to the bathroom. We have accommodated more than 2 persons, at this house, many times. Original artwork and antiques throughout. This is a house to use as a base for exploring the area around Bodrum or for simply relaxing. The property is located high above the village of Gokcobel, now called Dirmil. The house is a 40-minute drive to the airport and the village of Yalikavak is 3 km away. Major supermarkets (6) are within a few hundred meters of the house. There is a private road to the property with a private entrance to the house. This is a stand-alone property and not part of any apartment-type complex.
The small pool has been cut out of natural rock. It is not for swimming but perfect to simply cool off during the day or watch the sunset. It is shallow on one side and deeper on the other, facing West, where the sun sets. There are 2 adjustable deck chairs and an umbrella. The pool is hidden from view from neighbors as they are all below this house.
SMALL CHILDREN SHOULD BE SUPERVISED AT ALL TIMES
From the house it is possible to walk downhill, 100-150 meters, to the village just below where there is a small grocery store, community tea shop and on Mondays a wonderful Farmers Market. A very large Migros Supermarket is also there and next to the supermarket is a great place to try authentic village food. A great kebab place opened near the Farmers Market. There are also 3-4 wonderful Turkish breakfast places located in home gardens. These places are a real treat and should not be missed.
Near Migros is a large bakery for great bread right out of the oven and next to this a good pide-pizza restaurant. Both the bakery and the Pide place use wood ovens.

Summary: Stayed at this lovely little villa for a few days and wished I’d have been able to stay a few more. No Wi-Fi is available so you must either use data roaming or get a local SIM with data at the local Vodafone store for about $40. Plunge pool is small but comes with the most amazing sunset view! We spent hours in this little pool just enjoying the tranquility of this area. Frank was a great host and I will definitely recommend you view and consider his properties. He does a great job. He even made dinner reservations for us our first night at a local seafront restaurant which was excellent. During summer it does get warm in the house but the two fans he provided help a great deal. I love A/C, but this was not a big deal as the wind kept the place mostly comfortable during our stay. This property is a very good value for the area. I will definitely return to chill with that amazing view!

Summary: My wife & I were planning our visit to Turkey, my home-country, after 7 years. We wanted somewhere that is not too crowded, not within an apartment/hometown complex and within our budget. We found a property that we liked, yet we never heard back from the owner, and I have to tell you, I was very happy that they did not get us back as it led us to Berna & Frank's village house. From the get go, Frank has been incredibly open to communication and eager to help. He also stopped by to say hi. The location is absolutely amazing. We stayed there for two weeks. It is within the village of Gökçebel, only a few minutes of drive from Yalıkavak. If you are not familiar with the traditional stone house, it is relatively cooler in summer and warmer in winter. Despite the 90F+ heat during the day, we slept comfortably with the two fans available in the house. The main bed is very comfortable. Our daughter slept on one of the little padded village seating area. We even hosted my brother for a couple of nights without any problem, so a family of 4 can easily stay there. The dip-in pool is great for a quick cool down & to have your kid(s) stay occupied when needed A car is a plus but the public transportation is very organized and reliable in and around Bodrum. There is a nice supermarket in less than 5 minutes walk away, there is also a fluff and fold service a few minutes from that market. There are also a few local restaurants walking distance away. We prepared our breakfast most of the mornings using the local produce and farm product we purchased from both the cute Gökçebel market on Thursdays (3 minutes walk) and the great Yalıkavak market on Tuesdays (8 mn drive). We were out on the beach most days and had dinner with family and friends most of the nights, but we had one day at home where we took it easy, napped and enjoyed a very slow day, and this little cottage is perfect for that. We made sure to use the grill and bbq a few nights at home as we sipped our rakı and take in the amazing sunset. This location is not for people who are accustomed to hotels and room service. This is for people who are seeking an authentic experience, enjoying the morning rooster, hearing the neighbor's horse neighing and mingling with the locals. If you belong to the latter category, I'd highly recommend this property. We also took the liberty to add two large shells we found in the lovely Aegean sea to the house unique decor. Thanks for everything Frank!

Summary: We booked in for six nights and really enjoyed our stay. The place is a gem for a reasonable price and our hosts, Frank and Berna were very responsive to any of our requests. We even got home baked cookies and cake dropped off by our hosts while there and Frank has a wealth of local info on the best sights and marina restaurants. The small village house has a great setting, it’s generally pretty quiet and comes with a large outdoor patio that is covered. Don’t just stay for one nights as it just gets better each day as you check out the area. Only two challenges we experienced to share-the house location can get warm in these hot summer months and there isn’t A/C available. Frank brought us an extra larger fan after our first night which really helped out and made our stay much more comfortable. Internet was also advertised as available so we had expected to have WiFi access at the house but we found out upon arrival that it required us to have our own local SIM card and a mobile cash card account for Turkey. No worries since WiFi is generally available elsewhere in the area but service can be quite inconsistent so you should have your own mobile data plan just in case. If you are looking for a quiet place to relax that’s close to the Bodrum beach vibe and the nearby Bodrum peninsula area hot spots with a lovey dipping pool and sunset view to die for, this is it! Enjoy it as we did...

Summary: When searching through the internet for a villa, I was immediately struck by this property as something different, out of the ordinary, quirky, and that is how it turned out. The cottage is an older building with thick stone walls which sits nestled on a mountainside overlooking the village of Yalikavak- it is furnished with antiques and curios from the local area- so different from the sterile decor of modern apartments. The rooms are quite small but were perfect for us as a couple. The location up a steep hill means a car is essential but Frank arranged that for us and we were picked up at the airport and driven to the house, avoiding the stress of finding the place. We were greeted by the owners property manager with smiles, flowers, food and home-made wine! The generous patio area is covered to provide shade throughout the day and we ate outside morning, noon and night. The pool is small- more for a quick plunge than a swim, but the view from the pool is fabulous as are the sunsets every evening. There are four supermarkets just down the hill on the main road, so food shopping was easy- local markets are the place to buy your fresh fruit and veg and there seemed to be one almost every day in the towns and villages around us. Frank, the owner came to visit us and was very knowledgable and helpful with tips about the local markets and restaurants- he has provided a useful booklet in the house. The location of the cottage is about 5-10 minutes drive from the seaside town of Yalikavak, It is a pleasant busy little town with many seafront retaurants, bars and a weekly market. It has a public beach which you can use but we found it easier to visit one of the many waterfront bar/restaurants with bathing pontoons situated to the west of the new Marina. We did quite a lot of sightseeing trips and there are many fascinating archaeological sights within easy reach. Also Bodrum town is definitely worth a visit to see the castle and underwater archaeology museum. Our most outstanding meal had to be an evening at Limon cafe on the coast road towards Gumusluk- you need to book and it's not cheap, but the food and the setting is breathtaking. I would recommend this property to people who are independently minded and looking for a taste of real Turkey, we did quite a lot of travelling around during our stay and its but equally you could just chill by the pool and read books. The property is charming and original and suited us well and the owner was the perfect host.

Summary: My husband and I stayed at the Village Cottage for two weeks this summer. We were looking for something authentic that wasn't part of a condo complex or resort, and the Village Cottage met our needs. The cottage is a short drive from Yalikavak, which has a terrific Thursday market and a number of shops and restaurants, and is walking distance from a Migros supermarket. There is a rustic kitchen with a hot plate and a small hibachi grill, and we made most of our meals at the house, on the lovely wraparound porch with sunset views. Frank was a generous host who helped with making some restaurant reservations and answering questions about the area. All in all, we loved this quiet, laid-back part of the Northern Peninsula and look forward to coming back.

Summary: Not many words needed to describe the stay at the villa house. It was just great! Frank (the owner) is a nice guy who will drop in occasionally. The house is basic, yet has everything you could possibly need, nice pool, supermarket nearby and great views. We stayed in allmost every night, why go out when you're in a perfect spot? We'll definately be comming back to this spot in the near future.
