Located just 400 metres from the centre of the charming historic village of La Palme, this 200 year old house has recently been completely renovated and modernised. It's modest facade belies the extensive accommodation within.
Entering into a large Hallway you will see a fully fitted modern Kitchen with a large bright window overlooking the street. The kitchen has a large Fridge Freezer, Electric Oven, Gas Hob, Dishwasher, Microwave Oven and even a Gaggia Espresso Maker. Particularly well equipped with Cooking Utensils and all manner of kitchen gadgets.
Also off the entrance hall is found a large bathroom with double size shower, ideal for showering off after a long day on the nearby beach. Next to the Bathroom is a separate Laundry with washing machine and laundry sink.
A set of Double doors lead to the very large Lounge /Dining area which has a large Dining Table, Comfortable Sofas a 46" Flat Panel TV, UK Satellite Television, DVD Player and a good library of english language books and maps.
Two Sets of double doors lead to a large terrace equipped with a large Dining Table, Chairs and Parasol. To one side of the terrace is a built in barbecue and a wood burning Pizza Oven.
From the Lower Terrace a wide staircase leads up to the garden which has a 10m x 5m Swimming Pool with Roman Steps, a Pool House with tables and chairs and a sheltered pergola to escape the intensity of the mid day sun. Sun Loungers and Cushions are also provided for the pool terrace.
Going back inside, a wide staircase leads to the first floor which has four large double bedrooms. The main bedroom at the back of the house overlooks the pool and has an En-suite with separate shower and bath
The second large bedroom also overlooks the pool and had a large double and single bed
Bedrooms Three and Four are to the front of the house and are each equipped with two single beds.
The final room on this floor is the family bathroom.
All bed linen is provided as are Beach Towels and Bath Towels.

Summary: On arrival, the house was impeccably clean, the on-site briefing by the owner, and the notes on the house that he had written up for guests, were very useful. He lives nearby and is easily contactable. The kitchen is excellently equipped with everything even a large family group, as ours was (3 adults, 5 children), could require for a two-week stay. The beds in the 3 bedrooms were very comfortable and the new free-standing electric fans provided were a boon in the extreme heat during our two-week stay. The modern bathrooms and a shower-room are nicely equipped, and towels are provided for both indoor and outdoor (including beach!) use. Further, the washing machine and the dishwasher functioned impeccably despite the heavy use we put them to. The Wifi was totally reliable and stable throughout the property, including at the poolside. The patio with its large sun umbrella covering the equally large (plexiglass?) dining table was a very welcome amenity. We did not use the pizza oven, or the table tennis table or the boules, but their presence reflects the owner's clear concern to ensure that guests have a variety of possibilities for passing the time on the property. And of course a highlight is the excellent pool, suitable for adults and children, and its surrounds. There are shaded as well as sunbathing areas, with poolside armchairs -- although these latter are not overly comfortable when sitting in a reading position. As far as we were concerned the one negative aspect was the staircase which is uneven, while the shaky metal banister does not inspire confidence. This may not concern younger people, but for older folk (in our case in the early to mid-80s though in good physical shape) they are likely to be something of a concern. The owner, however, says he intends he intends to make it more user-friendly, in particular by the replacement of the metal banister with a strong wooden one as soon as possible. There is no specific parking, but the area in front of the house on the street is treated, apparently by the local police as well as locals, as belonging to the house. La Palme itself, however, is far from a lively village, with only basic amenities -- a boulangerie, a small grocery store, three restaurants of variable quality, but a nice open-air bar run by a local man who switched from wine- to beer-making. There is also an excellent pharmacy. For serious household provisions one has to drive some 10 kilometres to the nearest hypermarket

Summary: We received an extremely warm welcome from Liam and Yvonne who showed us around the property. The house is large and extremely well equipped. The pool is safe, large and beautiful. There is a fantastic BBQ and pizza oven. The stairs in the house are uneven and high so not great for toddlers or the elderly. The local town is sweet with bakery, small shop, bar and restaurant. The fantastic cities of Narbonne and Perpignan are 30 mins away. Beach at Leucate is good for the family but can be windy. Overall a great experience - thank you Liam and Yvonne!

Summary: We had a great holiday here, 3 generations of a family, for two weeks. The pool and surrounding patio areas were perfect for even the hottest days to splash around or sit out of the sun. The house itself was spacious and comfortable, stocked with everything you need. We used the dart board, tucked around the corner, every evening and had a few evenings using the pizza oven and bbq. The village of la Palme is quiet and charming. Nice to see Liam in the local restaurant, just up the road from the house. It was a shame we left on the day of their festival. Plenty of beach and areas to explore.

Summary: Liam's house would be only lovely if it wasn't for the fact that the Host has thought of EVERYTHING. So this La Palme house is the perfect get-away. All you have to do now is enjoy the cool interior, the beautifully fitted kitchen, generous bathrooms and bedrooms; and spend quality time in and around the pool. Follow the walking paths in and around the Village, visit the most accommodating Alimentaire for food essentials, buy traditional baguette at least once a day and stock the fridge with local wine from behind one of the nearby coloured-door Caves. A visit to the Grau de Leucate Oyster shacks is a must do. Do try to watch the feats of the wave riders and kite surfers when the Tramontane lures them onto the water. Explore the haut Corbieres or Pais Catalan by car (easy parking right at the front door).

Summary: Where to begin? This is probably the best holiday home we have ever stayed in (and we have stayed in quite a few, over the years). Liam and Yvonne have thought of everything - from the extremely well equipped kitchen, complete with super duper "bean to cup" coffee machine, to the spare pool towels, to the wifi access in the garden. The house comfortably sleeps nine people, so is ideal for two families and the pool and wifi access will keep everyone amused, whether travelling with young children or teenagers. Three well equipped bathrooms, with powerful showers, complete the picture. Everything is immaculately clean - it is a really well kept, well looked after house. The fact that it is located in a working village is a great bonus, as it is possible to walk to the (very good) restaurant, and the excellent bakery in the morning. There were a couple of welcome surprises too, such as the table tennis table, and the beautiful terrace behind the pool (perfect for sipping on a drink in the evening whilst watching the teenagers cavort in the pool). La Palme is ideally located with some lovely beaches nearby, and Carcasonne, Villefranche de Conflent, Collioure and the Spanish border are all within a one hour drive. We attended the annual village festival on the final night of our holiday, which was just lovely - live bands, stalls selling local food and wine, and a really good firework display to round off the evening. We hope to return soon - thank you Liam and Yvonne for a wonderful holiday.

Summary: This is the second time we have stayed and this time my son and partner came along. They were blown away with the house as we were the first time we stepped through the front door. The house is wonderful and supplies you with everything you will need for a self catering holiday. The pool was used everyday with the weather being so warm. The village is a great location to get out and about in the area. Valerie and Dominque the cleaner and pool man are so lovely and will always try and encourage a little conversation in French. The trouble you will have is actually going somewhere else, because the house is so perfect for your stay , that anything else you look at doesn't match up. thank you to Liam and Yvonne for letting the lovely home out.
