What Our Guests say 500 + Reviews

Aug 23, 2022 11:01:22 AM
Summary: The July '22 review was not posted until after we arrived. It is true that there is a rather unpleasant smell emanating from the kitchen drain. It appears the owner tried to do something about it but it is still quite noticeable. It did not smell like sewage to us, more like grease had been dumped down the drain at some point. No other drains in the home had any noticeable odors. The cottage itself is adequate. The kitchen is stocked with the bare essentials (but we had to supply things like ice cube trays). The internet was quite strong. The owner very nicely delivered a new gas grill even though it was not in the listing. The air conditioning does enough to take the edge off on a hot day. The bathroom is in fine condition. The beach is large and has a great view. Our kids (6 and 4) enjoyed playing in the sand. Please note the shoreline is quite rocky--water shoes are recommended. If you use the mooring balls be prepared to swim. They are located a good distance from the beach/dock. There was a snafu trying to rent a boat through the owner/property manager that was disappointing but manageable. The area is beautiful and boat rides around Lake Leelanau, to The Narrows, and Leland made for an excellent vacation. Suttons Bay and Traverse City are very close. If you rent this cottage and use it just as a home base as we did it is adequate. If you desire a place to hang throughout the day, you may want to find something a bit nicer. I hope the owner (who seems very nice) resolves the drain smell.

Summary: We really enjoyed renting Will and Diana's rustic cabin for a week. My family of four fit great, it is bigger than we expected. The cabin was clean and had everything we needed. The property is amazing. It is 4 acres on the lake, with a private beach and dock. You share the beach and yard with the main house guests, but there is plenty of room for everyone and it was nice chatting with another family. Each has their own fire pit. The owners were great. We've rented a lot of VRBO properties and they were the best. They personally showed us around the property and gave us recommendations for food, etc. We also rented their new pontoon for a few days, which was a blast and super convenient. In short, we loved our stay!

Summary: Very clean little cabin. Great little beach. We brought our kayaks and put in right from the beach. Loved fishing off the dock. Enjoyed biking the Leelanau bike trail. Really appreciated being able to bring our dog, the old guy was like a puppy again! Excellent jumping off place to enjoy “up north”.

Summary: We had a great week at this cabin. We are a family of six (kids ages 2 they 11) and fit quite comfortably. The cabin was clean and the beds, linens and pillows were very comfortable. The kitchen was well stocked and the AC and Wi-Fi worked well. Will, the owner, was attentive and gave us dining suggestions and activity suggestions for our week. The yard was amazing. We had several fires around the fire pit. We were able to rent a boat for the week very easily through lake leelanau water sports, and the lake was awesome for boating. My only minor suggestion is to modify one of the pictures that shows an outdoor table. There is not an outdoor table for use with that cabin. The location is great. We visited Sleeping Bear Dunes, North Bar Lake (long walk to lake Michigan from the parking lot but a must do in my opinion), Glen Arbor, Suttons Bay, North Port, and Traverse City during our week. Overall, I highly recommend this cabin. We had a wonderful week in Lake Leelanau!

Summary: The property is absolutely beautiful, spacious, well-shaded, and well-designed for a lakeside summer escape. The cabin itself is a cozy offshoot of a larger rental property with which the beach and dock are shared. The kitchen is simply stocked, the beds are comfortable, the utilities functional. The air conditioning leaves a bit to be desired, especially in the kitchen. Bring your own kitchen tools (if you are making anything elaborate), lounging furniture, sports gear, and plans for any boat/fishing rentals you might be interested in. The nearby town of Leland is very cute, with beach access to Lake Michigan. Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore is nearby and was the highlight of our trip. Our original plan to travel in Europe this summer was canceled due to the pandemic, and a week at this cabin was a fantastic plan-B. Unrelated to the property, but general thoughts about the region: we were dismayed by the volume of pro-Trump, anti-governor Whitmer signage we saw in the region, especially at a time in which the nation is grappling with a pandemic, and would prefer to spend our money in bluer regions in the future, where people are fighting for civil rights and are pro-science and environmental protection (especially dismaying in a place whose economy depends on the preservation of its natural beauty).
