3 Bedroom House in Deer

ALL- OR 4-WHEEL DRIVE REQUIRED
ADULTS ONLY (MINIMUM AGE 18)
SECLUSION AT ITS FINEST! Escape from everything to "Halcyon" - a beautifully-appointed cabin overlooking a waterfall in true wilderness with all of the amenities . This property includes a 3 bedroom, 1.5 bathroom house with cedar interior, 40 acres of private forested land with rocky outcroppings, a spring-fed stream that runs the entire length of the property, culminating in a beautiful waterfall next to the cabin, and shares a border with the Ozark National Forest, providing hours of hiking, exploration, and photo opportunities.
The house is furnished with craftsman cedar tables, bedframes, dressers, and chairs, comfortable lounging furniture, and everything you’ll need in the kitchen, including a dishwasher, washer, and dryer. The bedrooms include one on the main floor (queen bed, overlooks waterfall) and two on the 2nd floor (one queen bed in loft area with smart TV and DVD player with 50+ DVDs, one comfortable futon in room overlooking waterfall). The "great room" has a vaulted ceiling, a large wood-burning fireplace, a smart Roku TV with Netflix and Amazon Prime Video, and a dining room overlooking the beautiful waterfall. There is also a bonus room on the 2nd floor overlooking the waterfall that can be used as a 4th bedroom with tri-fold foam mattress (provided) or an office with a spectacular view. You will also have access to all of the comforts of home such as robes, dinnerware, flatware, spices and herbs, pots and pans, cookie sheets, bedsheets, pillows, towels, blankets, etc.
Also included with the house are patio furniture, screened canopy, portable fire pit, charcoal grill, folding chairs, and a two-person anti-gravity chair.
For an unforgettable experience, follow the stream west to the border of the Ozark National Forest, where it is possible to hike from the north side of the stream for days downstream through untouched wilderness and beautiful waterfalls.
The charming town of Jasper is only a 20-minute drive and is a hub for canoeing, horseback riding, fishing, kayaking, hiking, and many other outdoor activities.
IMPORTANT NOTES:
* An all- or 4-wheel drive vehicle is required to get to the property, as the last mile is gravel (maintained by the county) and gets relatively steep at points, and there is a small stream to cross to get to the cabin. Rain in the forecast makes it an even greater requirement.
* Two vehicles can be parked in the driveway right by the house, and there is more parking across the stream and up the gravel road.
* If more than 4 adults arrive at the house upon check-in or arrive later, we reserve the right to turn guests away with no refund of monies paid.
* This property is not conducive to children; the minimum age to stay is 18 years.
* The waterfall is lowest in the summer months, and we've seen it get down to a trickle during dry times. We can't predict when this will happen, and cannot be held liable for the water level of the stream that feeds the waterfall. We pray for rain during those times!
* The stream next to the cabin is not fishable, but fishing is possible within 20 minutes of the property. Please contact the Buffalo Outdoor Center for more information about fishing in the area or visit their website.
* This property is in Newton County, which is a dry county, so any alcohol needed must be bought and brought in from elsewhere. The nearest liquor store is 40 minutes north in Harrison, Arkansas (WOW liquor).

Summary: We’ve stayed in dozens of VRBOs. This is one of the best. The area was experiencing a drought so there was no waterfall the first couple of days of our stay. Silver lining: that made it possible to hear a lot of birds - and there were many, including a pileated woodpecker, eastern screech owl, and barred owl. Midway through our stay, the rain came and we had a waterfall, so we got the best of both worlds. We were glad we drove our F150 as the road to the cabin is rugged, especially with rain. The cabin is very remote and peaceful; you don’t hear cars, people, barking dogs - just birds and water. It is cozy, clean, and well-equipped. We had everything we needed during our stay. We especially enjoyed the deck. We hiked nearby Round Top, Glory Hole Falls, Lost Valley, and Big Creek Cave Falls. All were gorgeous. We ate (twice) at our favorite Cliff House Inn in Jasper, and found a new favorite: Grumpy’s Burger Barn (food truck) in Ozone. We visit Arkansas every year. Beautiful views and the nicest people. You can’t go wrong with the waterfall retreat as your home base.

Summary: This is a beautiful home with amazing scenery. The atmosphere and the location was perfect for unwinding and totally unplugging from the world. Words cannot describe the beauty and silence, with a waterfall being the noise. My husband and I would go back anytime. Note: 4 wheel drive is a must. The host/s stated that in the description of the property and they really meant it. It is off the beaten path which is one of the things that made it great.

Summary: My wife and I stayed three nights on our 50th wedding anniversary trip through Arkansas. If you are looking for a remote, beautiful, peaceful cabin surrounded by forest, mountains, wildlife, hiking, stream, and waterfall this is it. The large cabin has all the amenities of home. It is very clean and well maintained. It is so remote that you may feel like you have taken the wrong turn or are lost when you are driving the last stretch of the dirt/gravel road going to the cabin. But when you get to the end of the road and see the cabin surrounded by the beautiful forest nestled next to the stream, you won’t ever want to leave your new found home away from home. Although the stream waterfall is spring fed, when we visited in September 2024 which was a drought year, the stream and waterfall were only a trickle but it was still beautiful and enjoyed the trickle water sounds right out your bedroom window. I know rain is unpredictable but if you can plan trip around a good rain or non drought year the waterfall would have been even more enjoyable. But even in a drought year with the low flow of water the cabin and the surrounding beauty and peacefulness are well worth it. Doug and Amanda are great hosts and provide great communication. This cabin stays well booked so make your reservation early. We will stay again if we are in the area and if there is an opening.

Summary: This was the most memorable experience for my husband and I. As business owners we stay extremely busy on our phones a lot. This was exactly what we needed to disconnect and refresh. This was by far the cleanest cabin I've ever walked into. It is absolutely in the wilderness and there was not a single bug inside. Well I take that back I did see a spider in the sink but it was dead. They have gone above and beyond to make this place enjoyable and relaxing for their guests. Everything we needed was there. There were plenty of condiments and spices as well as every amenity necessary to stay for a while. We will be returning when the leaves fall so we can do more hiking in cooler weather.
