Big Elk Lodge is a private home located on the shore of Clear Lake, one of nine amazing lakes on the Manitowish Chain covering over 7,000 acres of water, connected by seven miles of scenic channels to explore. Big Elk Lodge will comfortably accommodate your group in summer, fall, winter, and spring, whether you are looking for peace and quiet or some high adventure.
Inside, the home features 3,300 square feet spread across two levels. You'll have four well-appointed bedrooms, with a king bed, one queen, and six twins to divide between your group, and there is even a sleeper sofa available for extra guests. On the upper level, you'll find the living room with a large flatscreen TV above a stone wood-burning fireplace, a game table, a dining room, the two main-level bedrooms, two full bathrooms, and a full kitchen equipped with all the appliances and counter space you'll need to prepare delicious meals.
Downstairs features two bedrooms, a full bath, a laundry room, and the large family room that features a TV, and there is a Ping-Pong table, a game table, with lots of puzzles, games, books, nature guides, and maps to explore. The central AC will keep everything nice and cool on hot summer days, and you can take advantage of the free WiFi to research tomorrow's next family adventure.
This home is only two miles from the sixty-mile Heart of Vilas Bike trail that recently won an award from the national park service. Head outside to take advantage of the outdoor amenities that include two large docks, a swim area, a canoe, a rowboat, two paddleboards, four kayaks, a private gas grill, a large deck, two pairs of cross-country skis, four pairs of snowshoes, a spacious and furnished deck, and a firepit. There are plenty of fun activities and attractions nearby, such as restaurants and bars, North Lakeland Discovery Center, WinMan Trails, Koller Memorial Park, Skiing Skeeters Water Ski Show, Music in the Park, canoeing and kayaking the Manitowish River, Little Star Beach, and special weekly activities, and special weekly activities. There is also a snowmobile trail just two miles away.

Summary: We liked the space. There is a lot of room for people to spread out. We liked the cleanliness. The house is well maintained. We liked the location. Neighbors are not on top of you and it feels pretty private. We did NOT like that we could not cover the windows. People go on vacation and sleep is usually a priority. This house does not have window treatments on the upstairs / first floor bedrooms. It is not a new house & there are not old screw holes of there ever being blinds or drapes... it is very confusing. The sun comes up around 4:45 the days we were there and at night you are definitely wondering if the neighbors are watching you change. I would have paid less for a smaller place where everyone can sleep in.

Summary: The house was spacious & well furnished. The ping pong table was a big hit as we had a rainy week! Unfortunately, we couldn't use the big deck or fire pit. The kitchen was well supplied with dishes, pots & pans & loved having the Keurig! The house is on a quiet lake & we enjoyed the wildlife and sitting at the dining table on the porch for meals & games. A handrail on the steps to the lake/ dock would be a welcome improvement.

Summary: Beautiful! This house is amazing! We stayed with 10 people and there was more than enough room. And what a location! Right on the banks of Clear Lake. Made it perfect for some pontoon trips and tubing enjoyment.

Summary: we stayed at this property with a group of 9. Great house and great location. Home was clean and exactly as pictured. There are approximately 35(ish) stairs to the lake - but the walkway is landscaped nicely so it isn't too steep. Would be nice to have window coverings in the upstairs bedrooms for privacy and keeping the sun out. Tandem bike that was advertised was unavailable. Great response from maintenance team when calling for garbage removal and supplies. Plenty of eagles and loons to watch on the lake. Great property.

Summary: We enjoyed our stay at Big Elk Lodge. The property is clean, comfortable, well maintained and very well stocked with everything you could possibly need in the kitchen. We enjoyed having morning coffee and afternoon wine on the deck. There are quite a few steps down to the dock which may be a challenge to some. The dock itself was not the best but certainly usable. The one suggestion that I would have is for the owners to buy some sort of window coverings in the bedrooms. The windows in the master bedroom are very large and without some sort of covering, the light pours in very early in the morning waking us up by 6:30AM. We would have preferred to sleep in a bit while on vacation.
