Summary: After a day of exploration around this beautiful area, often in damp and cool conditions,we could not have asked for a more peaceful, warm and comfortable base to return to. Everything you need is catered for. The cottage is set in a lovely, quiet and tranquil location, the sound of sheep, cattle the only sounds likely to disturb you. We hope to return soon.

Summary: The property is well equipped, impeccably clean and very homely. Sitting by the wood burning stove listening to the birds as the sun set was perfectly relaxing. The location is excellent, there is plenty to do on the doorstep and Torridon and Applecross are under an hour away. We also enjoyed a day sea kayaking at Plockton.

Summary: Attadale Holiday Cottages, Strathcarron, Wester Ross I stayed with a friend in the East Bothy on the Attadale Estate, from October 8 – 15. We thoroughly enjoyed the break. The weather was superb, the Scottish Midge largely absent. The East Bothy was cosy, clean and well presented. Downstairs there is an open plan living, dining and kitchen area, very well equipped with everything that might be needed; also some really thoughtful touches, like freshly picked flowers from the Gardens, tea, coffee, milk, biscuits and fresh eggs, all very welcome when arriving after a long journey. The Welcome pack was particularly helpful and comprehensive, with information on all you need to know to get the best out of your break. Also the Comments/Feedback book, which contained some useful recommendations from previous guests with regard to places to visit, eat out, etc. There is no TV (we didn’t miss it at all!); but a DVD player and WiFi are both available. We loved the wood burning stove and the plentiful supply of logs. Also the sight from the windows of deer grazing on the grass outside. Upstairs there are two bedrooms, one with a double bed, the other with two singles, all very comfortable. In terms of the location, the four holiday cottages are set in beautiful surroundings. There is an invigorating walk from the cottages to Bendronaig Lodge and back, a distance of some 12 miles or so. We were very glad to be offered a lift there by the head stalker and enjoyed the walk back down, which was sufficiently invigorating for two 70+ year olds! A series of three hydro electric schemes are currently being installed on the Attadale Estate, with completion due in late Spring /early Summer 2017. It was interesting to observe progress, and we didn’t find that this work impinged in any way on the peace and quiet of the location. As a guest at the cottages you are allowed free and unlimited access to the Gardens, which are well worth a visit. This is a good base for exploring further afield: e.g. 20 miles from the Skye Bridge, 18 miles from Eilean Donan Castle. I can also recommend the drive to Applecross, over the Bealach na Ba or ‘Pass of the Cattle’. The road rises to a height of 2,053 ft from sea level in about four miles and is acknowledged to be the most spectacular pass in Scotland. Single track throughout, it also provides some of the most challenging driving in the country. All in all, a great experience.

Summary: East Bothy was a well appointed cottage in the lovely Attadale Estate. It was clean, comfortable and warm. Electric heaters are installed in each room and there is a log fire for really cold evenings. The Estate workers were helpful if anything is required. Although the Estate is served by the railway (Attadale Station is about 1 mile from the cottage) to get the most out of the area visitors will need a car. Close by are Loch Carron, Skye, Applecross and Loch Torridan. Low level walks and mountain climbs are both possible from this cottage. Visitors to the cottage have free access to the beautiful Attadale Gardens which are well worth seeing Our holiday at The East Bothy was probably the best we've had in Scotland, during 40 years . We would certainly recommend this property and the surrounding area to others.

Summary: East Bothy is a favourite cottage of ours, perfect location, access to visit a beautiful garden and spotlessly clean and cosy. Very well kitted out, clean and fresh decor and lots of wood for the log burning stove. Walks up the hill road and beyond are amazing, views are spectacular, a real gem in the highlands.

Summary: We spent a very enjoyable week recently at Strathan Cottage. Our party was three people, but there is plenty of room for a family of four. The cottage is nicely and simply furnished, and clean. We lived most of the time in the kitchen which has a large table and is good for communal living. The rented cottages are situated together well away from the road and main house. Our dog enjoyed long daily walks. There is plenty of wildlife to see, with red deer beside the cottage some evenings. The cottage is well placed for outdoor activities, especially hill walking. Only minor quibbles, which we mentioned to the owners. No hair dryer, no dishwasher or washing machine (although laundry can be done at Attadale House). I still thought very good value for money. A big plus is free entry to nearby Attadale Gardens. All the entries in the guest book were very complimentary so we are not the only ones to have enjoyed our stay. We had good weather too - but I'm afraid it is never possible to promise that to all visitors to north west Scotland! In summary, this is a value for money cottage, well situated for an outdoor holiday.

Summary: If we had a chance to live in Scotland, we would love to live on Attadale Estates. It was the highlight of our three-week vacation in Ireland and Scotland. Our only disappointment was in having to leave! What a wonderful place to vacation! Our weeklong stay (not nearly long enough!) was in a darling cottage set back from the main road with cows and sheep grazing just outside our door, high hills surrounding us on three sides and a beautiful sunlit loch in the distance. East Bothy (the name of our vacation house) is one side of a dual cottage. It was tidy, well maintained, cozy and just right for getting away from the distractions of modern life. The tiny kitchen was more than adequate, the 2 comfy bedrooms were tucked under the eaves upstairs and the sitting room was just what we needed for relaxing (no television, which was great for us!) after spending our days exploring the nearby attractions. Our host, Joanna MacPherson, could not have been lovelier. The attractions? One could stay inside the estate walls all holiday and be perfectly happy! Attadale Estate features a beautiful garden that you can wander all day long. Explore the hills, winding road, streams and fields with camera and binoculars, or just sit outside enjoying a cup of coffee, watching the midges come out at dusk (smite those midges!), all without leaving the grounds -- of the Estate, not the coffee! (um, American humor!) We spent a lot of time driving to nearby places, and still did not have enough time to see everything. Strathcarron across the loch has a nice grocery store andthere are plenty of good restaurants close by if you like to eat out. A short drive away are the ruins of Castle Strome resting on an outcropping above the loch with the mountaintops of Skye in the distance. A drive over the top of the mountain to the other side is gorgeous and hair-raising (hairpin turns, room for one car to pass at a time -- you know, Scotland!) But on the other side you'll find Applecross and more -- go to the ends of the roads, because that's where you'll find quiet coves and fishing boats dropping their nets. The Isle of Skye is close by for a day of exploring, as is Eileen Donan castle. Frankly, there was so much to do and see, but we loved being lazy and stopping wherever we pleased. Consequently, we didn't go to all the sites that are within the reach of Attadale. Did I mention that I took over 5,000 photographs? If you want to experience Scotland, this is the place to stay.
