Positive: I love everything about the Manyo Club. I showed up hours before check in but no problem - I could use the public baths all day ! The public bath facilities are beautiful and very well run. The view from the outdoor baths is wonderful. The location is outstanding ! Take a walk outside to the Marine Walkway (Parade), the Cup of noodles park ( and museum), the Red Brick Warehouse and so much more ! The amusement park (Cosmo World) is right across the street. At night you can go out on the roof deck and see all the colorful night time lights while soaking your feet (or not) in the foot bath. Both restaurants have very good food and the Manyo An restaurant has killer views and exceptional sashimi as well as a wide range of excellent Japanese specialties ( lots of eel dishes). I had an oil massage ( included scalp and feet) and it was THE BEST MASSAGE ever ! The breakfast buffet was phenomenal ! The Japanese style room was spotless and cozy. And when I needed help in English, I just asked the front desk and there was always someone who could assist me ! I was able to leave my luggage there securely both before check in and after check out ! Finally, there is a free shuttle that took me back to the Yokohama train station for free. I recommend both staying overnight at the hotel and coming for a day or night visit ( they are open 24 hours) to enjoy the baths and get a massage. The Manyo Club made my stay in Yokohama magical ! Thank you to everyone on the staff there !
Summary: Best place to stay in Yokohama !

Positive: Located in a very comfortable and scenic place of Yokohama, hotel/club offers a complete experience of living in a traditional Japanese room, trying delicious Japanese food and taking a meditative dive in an onsen/public bath, part of which is under open sky! All together at a very affordable price. It definitely helped to stay in a good shape every day during my business trip. Special thanks to the kind staff, which helped me to handle the picking up and shipping back of the extra luggage for the exhibition, help which was beyond their typical duty.
Negative: I have booked my stay through booking.com and was unable to contact (get a response from) the hotel/club through the platform, neither find a working email. Also could not find a printer in the registration desk to print some documents. However, as soon as I entered the hotel/club, I realized it is not a typical hotel and such facilities should not be expected from it (perhaps that is why it is called a club).
Summary: The experience in this hotel was fabulous and exceeded my expectations.

Positive: It was clean and close to my conference. Staff was friendly.
Negative: It was nothing like a conventional hotel. It was primarily a traditional Japanese community spa/public bath that happens to have some rooms. Access in and out of the building is controlled and awkward. No shoes allowed past the lobby. Two separate elevator systems - one for lobby to rooms and one for lobby to outside and parking. Limited English speaking staff and no English signs made it difficult to figure out how to function, find and access the room initially, and there was no explanation of the exit process. It took three days to get some sort of instruction. I would not stay here again. Be aware this is not a typical international hotel experience.
Summary: Unexpected, unconventional accommodations

Positive: It's quite an experience to be in a ryokan for a foreigner, and I mean this in a semi-good way. Literally (for me, I hope) one-of-a-time experience. The onsens are very nice.
Negative: Not enough information when you make the reservation, only some hints from some reviews. The experience is as follows: From the lobby you need to take an elevator to the 7th floor. You check in at the beginning of your trip to get a card and a locker key. You then need to take of your shoes and carry them in a bag so long you are inside (but you do get to keep your shoes with you). You walk barefoot on a wooden floor (and tatami mats in the elevator and rooms). You then take an elevator to your room which will be on some other floor. It seems that there are rooms with normal beds, but you might perhaps get a "traditional" room with only tatami mats and futon mattresses. Might not be for everyone. Also, the rooms have bathrooms - but not showers. You shower in a communal shower on the 7th floor (which is expected, as this is a ryokan). Also might not be for everyone. When you want to leave the "hotel" (for example, when you want to eat outside, or experience the beautiful city of Yokohama), you need to go back to the 7th floor (don't forget your bag with shoes!), then go to the counter, explain that you want to leave (but not check out!), and return you key and card. You then get a barcode and number tag. You use the barcode to leave the counter, and keep the number tag for when you return. You may now put on your shoes and take the elevator back down to ground floor. When you want to return to your room: go once again to the 7th floor, skip the counter and hand the staff back your number tag, which will grant you your card and key. Don't forget to take off your shoes, and descend to your room. The process of check-in, check-out takes about 15 minutes combined, which is a very mild annoyance (but still an annoyance). Also the staff barely speaks English, which might present some difficulties. And the payment is cash only.
Summary: Nice, but you should understand what you're getting into
