Positive: The resort is set in a pretty gorge with a rushing stream well outside of Mayhofen. It is possible to get there by bus from the Zillertal, but much easier if you have a car. The building itself is beautiful and the spa/sauna facilities are excellent. The meals were very good and the staff were friendly and helpful. There are a few nice hiking and bicycling options nearby, but many more if you go down to the valley. They have a couple of electric vehicle chargers (extra cost) in the garage, which was very useful for me.
Summary: A great choice if you can afford it and plan to take advantage of the excellent facilities

Negative: From the moment we arrived, the experience at this hotel felt disconnected. We checked in around 7:30 p.m. and were told to come back another night for the welcome drink because the restaurant was closing soon. A welcome drink takes two minutes — it’s supposed to set the tone and make guests feel at home. Instead, it felt rushed and impersonal. The inconsistency continued. Some staff wore uniforms, while others were in casual street clothes. For example, I had booked a couples massage, which turned out to be two separate massages in different rooms. The gentleman checking my wife in for her massage was dressed casually, and then went on to give her the treatment. It felt unprofessional and out of place for a luxury resort. Dinner service was equally disappointing. Our server knew we were American, yet the table next to us carried on loudly with negative political commentary about America. Instead of helping create a pleasant atmosphere, staff even participated in the disapproval of American politics, making us feel uncomfortable and unwelcome. This is my holiday — I don’t need to hear that while trying to enjoy dinner. The food itself was not much better. Meals leaned heavily on the buffet, with the “main course” one night being a single sliver of flank steak. If you’re going to offer all-inclusive rates, the dining should feel complete, not like an afterthought. By the third night, we chose not to eat in-house at all. Overall, everything at Zillergrund Rock felt disjointed and disappointing. For a property that positions itself as a luxury mountain resort, the service, professionalism, and dining experience simply did not match the expectation.
Summary: Wouldn’t recommend, wouldn’t stay here again.

Positive: The hotel looks 'the business' and is very modern and well kept. It's got a real charm about it and is different to all the usual Austrian hotels. The room was clean and well maintained. The quality of the food was excellent and the variety/ choices on offer was great. Lovely views of the surrounding area. The staff were very friendly in general (especially the Brazilian chap who worked on reception). The architecture of the pool is a real selling point and the spa services were great - lovely sauna with a breath-taking view. Other guests seemed pleasant and the whole 'vibe' was quite calm and relaxing.
Negative: A few aspects of our stay really disappointed us given the outstanding reviews we had read beforehand. It's clear why it's a 4 * rather than a 5*. Some of the main niggles:- 1). Perhaps an Austrian thing, but none of the bedrooms were air conditioned which we'd expected as standard. It was extremely hot during our stay and we had to leave the balcony door open through the night. Unfortunately this meant we were harassed by flies whilst trying to sleep. We didn't have 1 good night's sleep and woke up feeling rough rather than refreshed. 2). Our bedroom was very small in comparison to other hotels we've stayed in in Austria. The view from our balcony wasn't particularly pleasant (just looking onto other rooms). We asked if we could switch rooms on the first day but the receptionist seemed very grumpy about it so we didn't raise it again. 3). No tea/ coffee making facilities in the rooms which is something us Brits expect. Just one tumbler of stale water which was not replaced during our stay. 4). Drinks from the bar/ during dinner were extremely expensive, and there was pressure from the staff to spend money. One barman insisted on making us 'surprise' drinks, which we hadn't asked for, and which we thought would be free but we then got billed for them. We felt a little manipulated into spending money. The bar was largely empty because it was just too much hassle and guests just want to chill out. 5). The hotel provides water, sparkling water, juices etc free of charge throughout the day until 5pm. Whilst at dinner you are charged for water which has blatantly come from the same dispensers used during the day - they basically put tap water in their own fancy bottles and then charge you for it. We don't mind spending money but that seemed a bit off. The hotel has all the right ingredients to be 5*, it just needs to up it's game in a few areas.
Summary: Can see why it's a 4* as opposed to a 5*

Positive: Breakfast and dinner were great. Lunch if you are there was a bonus. Lovely roof pool and wellness facilities. Building is a great design and instagram worthy. Nestled in a river valley, it was peaceful and quiet especially at night.
Negative: We got the feeling Brits weren't really welcome. The staff are abrupt and only available from 8.00am. We had a late transfer back and there wasn't really any attempt to help us ski and change before leaving, our bags were left next to reception desk all day and when we did leave there was no acknowledgement. The wellness sauna/steamroom areas are naked only in both buildings, and we asked if we could wear swimwear and told 'naked only'. Bathrobes but no slippers, which we assumed was to avoid plastic packaging but no compromise. They had removed soap dispensers in the rooms but left the brackets on the walls. Transfer shuttle to Penkenbahn is small so you needed to be 15mins early to get a seat.
Summary: Potentially very good but only if you are German

Positive: The view from the room, Spa zone is nice, breakfast and lunch were good. Wine selection is amazing. Dinner food (set menu) was just ok (too much creativity :-)).
Negative: The staff at times was not very helpful nor friendly. Most disappointing was slippers for 7Euro at supposedly lux resort and the fact that the waiter at dinner tried to convince us of "buying" 3 drinks that we have not ordered. Glass doors to the bathroom in the rooms is not very "convenient"
Summary: Fine experience, but a one time stay....

Positive: Food was amazing for each each meal. Sauna's and pool areas are beautiful and perfect for deep relaxation. Bedrooms were large and comfy with great views.
Negative: Was a bit challenging to find times or a massage, but not such a serious problem
Summary: My second stay, was as amazing as I remembered from my first, and I'll definitely be staying again!

Positive: Very nice modern resort, excellent breakfast with a lot of different choices up to unforgettable dinners, good position for hiking and bikes btw rentable directly in hotel, great spa
Negative: usually I do not comment rooms at all, I just sleep there anyway, but we had cozy but small room a bit dark, so comparing with others 4 stars resorts in Austria we felt a bit straitened, but definitely it was not such a big inconvenience to spoil our stay
Summary: good place for hikers and bikers
