Positive: Host came to pick me up punctually. Room is large and clean in general. Breakfast is good.
Negative: Dinner was shabu shabu which is simpler than what I expected. Beef was quite good though. Two pubic hair found in hot spring bathtub. And hot spring water was not hot in the morning. WiFi in the room was really weak.

Positive: The location was perfect for me, 10 minutes walking from the train / bus station and on top of a light hill, so the view from our room was incredibly nice. (This also means that if you are going on foot you have to walk uphill, no big deal for us, but if you have heavy luggage it could be difficult). Both dinner and breakfast were japanese-style, but not too traditional on both taste and texture (I say this as a plus, because my partner is not keen on super traditional Japanese cooking and still managed to eat most of his breakfast). We were also offered non-meat options beforehand, which is great! The building is a mixture of western and japanese styles, so for example the common room has high tables and chairs and a parquet, while the rooms have tatami. Everything was lovely, the common area had a beautiful terrace with a view, our room had a small balcony with outside seats and a private onsen bathtub. The owner is a very nice man and we chatted during dinner. We speak good enough Japanese, so language wasn't a problem, but the owner also speaks good enough English and is very helpful. We had free access to coffee, tea and water from the common room and two complimentary water bottles in the room.
Negative: I'm simply pointing out things that might be a problem for some people (they were not for me): - the hotel is on a light hill, if you are going on foot you have to walk uphill along a road with no sidewalk - if you have a private bathtub in your room you can't use the public one - the room is not exactly japanese style, for example the beds are not futon but actual low bed (which could be a plus for some people, but not for those looking for an authentic Japanese experience) - Dinner and breakfast are served at fixed times as it happens usually in ryokan (you are still given a choice between two hours, but you can't choose to have it served earlier or later than that)

Positive: Charming place, it clean with an overlooking view of the city. It in close proximity to the station around 5min walk and 1km walk to yufuin floral village. Breakfast was ok but dinner was great.
Negative: Onsen could have been bigger.
