Rieumes is a beautifully restored 15th century house, 50km south of Toulouse; it has spectacular views across rolling hills of the Ariege. The house is packed with historical detail yet it provides all the modern facilities you would want from a holiday home. The English owners live in the house but offer it for exclusive use in July and August. The house includes the main atrium hallway with an oak staircase going to the upper floors. There is an open plan kitchen and dining area and an 80sq.m sitting room with natural stone floors. Summary: The house and its location was great for us (group of three families) to spend time relaxing by the pool or the house in privacy and quiet but also to get out and explore the region from the lower slopes of the Pyrenees (great waterfall!) to historical sites and a few castles (Carcassonne, Foix, Monsegur) to rafting and cave exploring. Beautiful setting and great space for us all, a wonderful holiday.

Summary: We stayed two families in this lovely house which is located in a very beautiful setting. We stayed mostly on the property which has a great pool and lots of opportunities to relax and do various activities. However, there are also good opportunities for trecking nearby. Inside, the house i spacious, well equipped and decorated in a very tasteful way. Separate bathrooms for nearly all rooms certainly a plus ! Philipa is such a nice host - helpful and very discrete.

Summary: A very warm and friendly welcome by Philippa was a great start to the holiday. A sympathetically restored house with original features but also every modern facility you may wish for. A generous pool with stunning views across the local countryside. Bread delivered daily if required, which was a lovely start to the day. It was particularly hot during our stay, so additional free-standing fans would have been beneficial. I'm sure we will return. B

Summary: We spent a blissful week at Rieumes as a group of 3 families in August 2017. The house was beautiful throughout and had so many lovely details. Everything had been thought of. The kids loved their ‘dorm’ room and football table. We made full use of the outdoor terrace for all our meals and enjoyed barbecues and dinner at sunset. The pool was glorious. We were grateful for the pool alarm with the kids. We had the best time, completely switching off and relaxing. Our holiday here combined well with a great few nights in Toulouse for a contrast to the peace of Rieumes. Thank you Philippa for being such a welcoming host. If we are ever back in South East France we would love to stay again.

Summary: My husband, our son and I spent 3 weeks at Maison Rieumes last September. The gite is fabulous - huge living area, fab kitchen, really comfortable beds and great outdoor space with a beautiful pool. The owner Philippa was so welcoming and really helpful. We fell in love with this place and the Ariege region and will most definitely return.

Summary: Very attractive and large property in a suberb rural setting. House was clean and very well equiped with most rooms ensuite a bonus. The pool had a super view, perfect for watching the sun go down over the distant hills. We loved the local walks in the sunflower fields and the spectacular views of the pyrenees. Kids enjoyed the caves, the high ropes courses locally and the pool! Would recommend to others without hesitation.
