Positive: Fantastic location, great neighborhood, lots of nearby restaurants and just five min walk to Grove Street Path station. Just two stops to Manhattan. Also loved seeing the skyline at the docks at the end of the street. Kitchen sink and countertops were nice, and shower was fine. Double bed was comfortable, and apartment was clean when we arrived. Decor was cute. Odd layout due to the age of the place didn't bother us -- interesting history to the building!
Negative: As others have noted, this place is crammed with furniture, almost like it's a repository for the owner. Would have been nice to have shelving in the dining area for pantry items and dishes (instead they were just stacked on a random table), and drawers for clothing in the bedroom. Kids complained the bunk beds weren't very comfortable. Bathroom has a musty smell, and we had nowhere to put stuff while showering. Back garden was overgrown a bit, but it rained almost our entire trip, so I didn't use it much. Electronic lock was a bit finicky/difficult to figure out, so we ended up using the back up key. Also a note on parking -- I picked this listing because it advertised "free street parking" but this apparently came with a big caveat -- only 2 hours at a time unless you have a sticker. We ended up parking at the Newport Mall garage, which was fine, but $$. I think we would have been able to apply for a visitors pass to park on the street if I'd known ahead of time, but I was only informed about the details days before our trip. So something to note if you are bringing a car.
Summary: Great location but apartment could be better

Positive: Fantastic location. Close to everything and great neighborhood. Owner was very responsive when we had questions and issues. Bed was really comfortable. Tons of stuff to do within a block of the apartment. Right by the PATH station that gets you to Manhattan in 15 minutes.
Negative: Too much furniture in every room. Light fixture in the living room is too low, big and bulky. We were constantly hitting our heads on it. No place to put your toiletries in the bathroom. The stairs to the bedroom are VERY steep and the hand rail is not in the correct position for holding when coming down the stairs. If you have mobility issues, this apartment is not for you.
Summary: Great location

Positive: Courtyard is a nice touch. Located near a lot of restaurants.
Negative: Cramped and hard to move with more than 2 people. . Was not cleaned well. Kitchen items dated and somewhat dirty. Back door did not lock and backed only bathroom. Probate cause of mold smell in bathroom. Building was old obviously but just not maintained well. Lower unit has a pile of items and garbage directly across entry. Touch code door knob needs to be changed.
Summary: Historic but needs maintenance.

Positive: Much much better than expected (after reading previous reviews). Cozy place, great neighbourhood! We were 5 people and the place was spacious enough. Be careful not to put all your suitcases and backpacks on the top floor bedroom, because there isnt much space on the floor! Cute backyard, nice place to relax. Spacious living room with some fun board games for you and your friends. All amenities we needed in the kitchen were provided. Hot water 24/7 with high pressure in the bath tub. Some people might not like the style of this historic house, but we liked it. Also it's 2 blocks away from the subway that goes to WTC in 7 minutes. All in all we had a great stay and we missed the place when we left.
