In the lovely historic district of Bradenton's riverside downtown the 2nd story 1898 Carriage House Retreat is a 1room studio for a romantic weekend, a friends' getaway or business travelers. Fully renovated with every modern amenity, yet keeping it's nod to antiquity, it nestles behind our 1898 Queen Anne Victorian. Formerly where the horse and buggy would have been kept, the Carriage House sits with it's own private driveway & within steps of downtown's finest eateries, pubs, shopping & more!
The space
The 1898 Carriage House Retreat is accessed by a flight of 10 stairs to the 2nd floor with private balcony. The main 2nd story living area is renovated 400sq. ft. 1 room luxury studio tastefully sprinkled with vintage architectural detail. It has rustic coastal decor with a bit of glam. Tiny but very comfortable & romantic, there is a queen bed & the sofa opens into a full bed allowing 2-3 guests to sleep in air conditioned comfort. The bedding, towels & guest robes are sparkling white & fluffy. Pool/beach towels can be found in upstairs bath cabinet.
The kitchenette has conduction burner, microwave, mini fridge, toaster oven, sink, toaster, utensils, cooking implements, dishes, Keurig, Mr Coffee maker & a complimentary tea & coffee bar.
The TV is Smart with ROKU & the WIFI is fast!
You'll love enjoying morning coffee on the private 2nd floor balcony tree level with the birds. Downstairs, there is a private laundry only for guests with washer/dryer, beach chairs, igloo (8mi. to Manatee Beach & AMI), & a bathroom to use if you're using the pool-WHAT? A tiny house with a POOL? Yes, our salt water heated pool is available for your use every day. And when you're done why not enjoy the private outside hot/cold shower? We also provide 2 bikes to enjoy cruising the Riverwalk & downtown and an outdoor grill in case you don't feel like eating out.
This is a very unique place to get away and enjoy our local downtown with Manatee Rehab, Bishop Museum, Village of the Arts, Live Theatre, Rooftop dining, salon, Farmer's Market, Music Festivals, River Regatta & more just steps away. When you’re ready to relax come back to your charming 1898 Carriage House Retreat & relax-you’re on river time!
Guest access
Guests have their own reserved driveway next to the Carriage House. They have private access to the downstairs laundry/pool bath area and the entire upstairs living area. There is a small yard area designated by fencing with a lovely bistro set and solar lighted umbrella with grill reserved for guests. Our heated, saltwater pool is available to our guests.
Other things to note
The Carriage House guest driveway is accessed behind our main house by a service road which remains available 24 hours a day.
10 steps must be climbed to the 2nd story unit. Only the laundry room/ pool bath are on the ground floor.
Entire back yard area is fully fenced for your pup. We ask that you keep your pet in that area and please clean up after them. Our Boston Terriers are restricted to the front yard ( separately fenced) while we are hosting guests.

Summary: We liked the studio very much. The furniture was comfortable. I especially liked the dining chairs. The kitchen was adequate. It was missing a dish cloth and aluminum foil. The cooktop was a little tricky to get going, but the brand label helped me look it up online so i could learn how to use it. The bathroom had no hand/body soap. The TV was not user friendly, at first, until we found the Roku remote wedged into the frame of the sofa bed. The pool was great for our use. Definitely a plus! The parking was a little tight for our larger vehicle getting in and out of. It was great to have items that we didn't have to bring with us (beach towels/coolers, etc). My only disappointment was having difficulty in getting the code to get inside. Without an internet connection on our day of arrival, I was not able to go onto the VRBO website, where communication was happening with the owners in the week leading up to our arrival. This is where the code was to be received. I texted the owner, on arrival, and she called me some time later. She didn't want to text me the code, for security reasons, but after some back and forth, she eventually sent me the code. In the future, maybe they could send the code the day before arrival. Most likely the guest will still be home and have an internet connection. Overall, we can recommend a stay here for just 2 people. Any more than that would be tight. Thanks to the owners for offering a place that is clean and comfortable with a feeling of privacy.

Summary: The house was every thing you need to enjoy a weekend getaway or a week long vacation. Conveniently located between multiple different locations, and only 10 minutes from Anna Maria Island beaches. The house was cozy and had a good sense of privacy. The host were wonderful and keep a clean vacation rental. Bikes, the pool, beach chairs, and a cooler are all provided as well as private off street parking. Overall we had a wonderful stay and would recommend the host and location to anyone needing a few stress free day!

Summary: Up those ten stairs, waits a secret getaway. We loved this property. The apartment was cozy, clean, and close to everything. We made it to the beach everyday, slept in ,and ate at great restaurants. The pool was fantastic!
