This lovely ground floor conversion of a Grade II listed, former station master’s house provides an amazing location for the perfect Yorkshire coastal holiday. The station was designed by Rawlins Gould and opened on the 28th March 1864, closing 100 years later, on 19th October 1964, following the Beeching cuts. The property has been tastefully restored and enjoys some sea views from both bedrooms, and the twin bedroom has a 24" Freeview TV and DVD player.
The sandy beaches are about 200 yards away, and there is a boat compound with launching facilities for boats, ribs and jetskis giving access to the sea. It is centrally located in the unspoilt seaside town of Hornsea, known as ’Lakeland by the Sea’, due to the presence in the town of Yorkshire’s largest natural freshwater lake, Hornsea Mere. Not only is the property close to the beach and promenade with its cafés and fish and chip shops, but it is also a short level stroll from the heritage town centre with its museum, shops, restaurants, cafés, bars and public parks, making it an ideal base for those wanting to relax and enjoy the area. Within just a few hundred yards of Station House you will find an indoor soft play facility and Hornsea’s main leisure centre, which offers an indoor heated swimming pool, gym, café and other facilities. Hornsea is also the finishing point for the Trans Pennine Way; from your doorstep you can cycle or walk through the town and out into open countryside on these wonderful, largely level, maintained leisure trails. Activities locally also include sailing and bird watching at Hornsea Mere, Hornsea Golf Course, Freeport shopping centre, Honeysuckle Farm and there is a boat compound with launching facilities. Further afield you’ll find The Deep (a huge aquarium) at Hull and, of course, Bridlington, Scarborough, York, Filey and Flamborough. Summary: station house was welcoming lovely welcome pack could not want for anything but turn off the air fresheners while there as too much and the main problem was the neighbours above were very loud on an evening at the point of putting our children to bed to after midnight. so were all tired if the noise from above could be quietened the would happily stay again. Summary: The house was very comfortable, warm and clean and well equipped. Welcome basket was a nice touch the only fly in the ointment was the neighbours upstairs, the noise started Friday afternoon and continued over the weekend, it abated slightly during the week but hearing the washer at 1am in a morning wasn't great. Summary: I am a full time carer for my mother who has Alzheimer's disease, and I booked this break for mum, our two little dogs and myself. We were looking for easy rambling walks along the coast and a place to stay that would be a cosy little home-from-home and not too confusing for mum, I am pleased to say we found it in Station House. Mum loved it, was happy and relaxed and kept saying how nice it was, music to my ears! The little courtyard was perfect for the dogs, the cleanliness and well equipped kitchen were perfect for me. Summary: This is our second stay at Station House and the improvements made since last year have made the house even more comfortable. The house is well equipped and very convenient for all the amenities of Hornsea - many of which are wheelchair accessible and dog-friendly. As one of our party has very limited mobility the space to use a wheeled walker inside the property was vital and a level entry meant we could use the wheelchair from the door. We again hired a wheelchair from the local Lions Charity for the week. Grip rails in the shower would make this even better accomodation for those with mobility issues. Summary: The location of the flat is good with easy access to the beach and the town centre. The flat is ideal for a couple with 2 children as the second bedroom is small with bunk beds.
