1790s Cape Cod in historic Kingsburg, NS. Newly renovated with original details intact. Bright, sunny, near the beach and pond, coastal hiking trails and minutes from UNESCO heritage site, Lunenburg. Come, slow down and relax in this stunning setting.
Space
Our newly renovated home dates back to the 1790s with all the charm and quirks you would expect from a house of this vintage. The original cooking hearth is still in the kitchen (although no longer functional), the wide plank floors are original and the peace and quite are relaxing. The only sounds you can hear at night are the waves in the near distance.
Neighborhood overview
There is wonderful hiking on nearby trails as well as miles of beach. Excellent dining is minutes away in Lunuenburg. The Ovens park- a collection of sea caves is also nearby. Bicycles can be rented in Lunenburg for your stay.
Getting around
There is no public transportation in this area, so you will need a car to get here and to get around.
Other things to note
The property extends up the hill where deer are regular visitors- I have never walked up the hill and not found the beautiful herd of white tailed deer looking at me. There are panoramic ocean views from the top of the site- a perfect spot to sit with a beverage and enjoy the scenery and ocean breezes.

Summary: I have now rented the cottage twice for our family and consider this a wonderful property. The location is ideal, an easy walk to Hirtle's beach and there is lots of good walking and cycling accessible right from the cottage. We were five adults and the three bedrooms and one bath gave room enough for all. We dined both inside and also outside, on the expansive deck. Entertainment features like lawn games and boogie boards for the beach are added touches that we really appreciate and took advantage of. The cottage was well equipped for all our needs, a small but great kitchen stocked with essentials allowing us to simply buy vegetables, fruit and fish or meat, knowing that all the little extras like olive oil, spices or even sugar were on hand. It's great for a relaxed escape where you need just your clothes and basic groceries. We plan to return.

Summary: This comfortable old house is well equipped and very well located. The owners seem to generously attach great importance to the comfort of their guests. We had a great week there. Hirtle's Beach nearby is magnificent, we had a lot of fun playing in the waves with the bodyboards available in the shed. We went a few times to the beautiful village of Lunenburg which is only about twenty minutes away. In our other favorite spots: Carters Beach is amazing and of course there is Halifax which is a must see. We also really enjoyed our visit to Thunder Cave at Ovens Park.

Summary: What a place! We loved it! Why? The historic ambiance, 2 rooms with large beds, a spacious living room, a large dining table where we were able host 2 family dinners of 10 ppl, the deer walking through the property, the proximity to the beach (less than 10 minutes walk), the sound of the ocean waves crashing, the back deck we were able to use for lunch are just a few of the positives. We will definitely book here again.

Summary: This charming historic home was a clean, comfortable and amazingly well equipped slice of heaven. Perfect for a tranquil getaway or as a home base when exploring the South Shore. The property was lovely, full of character, and the scenic look-off in the back yard was the perfect place to end the day as the sun set behind me. I could not have been happier with this beautiful rental.

Summary: The property was exactly as presented. We felt at home the minute we open the door. The owners have renovated with great taste and creativity. Everything was planned and prepared to let us enjoy our stay. No details were left out. The hooks, the storage space, the led candles, the chairs outside and the ones at the top of the lot (to enjoy the ocean view) were perfect!!! I could list everything that was left for us to use. It was a blissed to come down Kingsburg Road and to see Kingsburg Pound and Hirtle Beach Road unfold every time we would come back to the Cottage. We stayed 2 weeks and we could have easily stayed longer... If we had not missed our 2 cats. Thank you to the owner Kim and Robert for a wonderful stay. We will be back! Summary: Every aspect of this home is warm and cozy. We had such a wonderful time and it was so relaxing. With kids it was also a wonderful surprise to have laundry there! Campfire pit, friendly neighbours, everything you'd need. I could go on and on. Communication with the owners was quick and very detailed. The kids are already asking to go back!

Summary: Gisela’s cottage is such a magical place. We loved the history of the building and area, and all of the touches throughout the cottage. We were there with our 15 month old daughter, two adults, and a dog and were very comfortable - the place had everything we needed.The property is also such a plus - great views from the top, and loads of deer! Interacting with Kim was also a pleasure. We would definitely recommend Gisela’s, and we’ll hopefully be back many times!

Summary: Lovely, updated 18th century farmhouse down the road from the beautiful 3km-long Hirtle Beach. The property was very well appointed and stylish. The kitchen was lovely and the dining area living room and patio with its fun globe lights all were very comfortable and worked very well for our group of six. There were many thoughtful touches. Including the use of bicycles, Turkish beach towels, an outdoor shower and boogie boards. We enjoyed the beach every day with our dog and enjoyed watching grazing deer on the property in the early morning and evening. In addition to its proximity to one of the best beaches in the province, the cottage is perfectly situated for trips to Lunenburg and other local sites. The hosts were extremely attentive and pleasant. Would highly recommend.!!
