1 Bedroom House in Strassoldo

Step through time at La Vicinia, once the medieval tribunal, now transformed into a captivating stone residence within one of Italy's most ancient private castles.
The moment you arrive, you'll feel it – this isn't just accommodation, it's living history. The same noble family who built this fortress over a millennium ago still lives in the castle's main building.
Strassoldo itself has earned its place among "I Borghi più Belli d'Italia" (Italy's Most Beautiful Villages), an exclusive designation recognizing its extraordinary historic and aesthetic value.
The heart of La Vicinia is its lovely arched portico – your personal retreat for candlelit dinners or lazy afternoons with a book and glass of local Friulian wine.
Your private garden, enclosed by a wooden fence, offers the perfect blend of intimacy and privileged access to the castle's beautiful gardens.
Inside, 150 square meters of thoughtfully restored interiors spread across two levels.
Downstairs, a welcoming living space with elegant wooden furnishings invites conversation and relaxation.
The kitchen balances rustic charm with modern conveniences for creating memorable meals with local ingredients.
Upstairs, two bedrooms – including a unique "open concept" sleeping area – feature handcrafted furniture painted by local artisans, with en-suite bathrooms providing contemporary comfort.
The surrounding village of Strassoldo is no tourist trap, but an authentic Italian borgo where crystalline spring waters flow through verdant gardens, creating an almost mystical atmosphere.
Being recognized as one of Italy's Most Beautiful Villages means it has preserved its architectural integrity and cultural heritage in ways that few places can claim.
Your strategic location puts you just 20 minutes from Grado's golden beaches, one hour from Venice's iconic canals, and minutes from Roman Aquileia. Slovenia and Austria wait just beyond, perfect for day-tripping through a fascinating cultural crossroads largely untouched by mass tourism.
La Vicinia isn't simply accommodation – it's your temporary home in a living, breathing piece of Italian nobility, where the whispers of a thousand years of history enhance every moment of your stay.
Available year-round, unlike our other castle residences and pet-friendly.

Summary: We had an amazing time in Strassoldo. One of our favourite short term stays we have had. The unit was spotelessly clean, and had all the conveniences you could think of. The castle of Strassoldo is very interesting to wander around, and the town is centrally located for many daytrips. We loved it!

Summary: Castello Di Strassoldo is a lovely spot, not fancy but comfortable and well equipped, in a unique and special setting. The owner Gabriella and helper Nidia are wonderful and it is clear that you are staying somewhere with tremendous history and charm. The castle complex is fascinating and the morning and hourly bells from the small church remind you regularly that you are in a bit of a fantasy land! There is not much to the town other than a small grocery store, a pharmacy and a post office but that's really all you need! Except, of course, a truly wonderful bar called BarBagianni (you will understand the name when you get there!) that is run by a lovely group of women and seems to be the social center of the town. It is a vibrant place that made our stay perfect.

Summary: We had a wonderful week in Strassoldo. The house was extremely comfortable with a small but perfectly serviceable kitchen. The bedrooms were large and bright with very comfortable beds, The outdoor area is beautiful and a wonderful place to wander with a glass of wine in the evening. The are two restaurants and an excellent little grocery store just around the corner. Nidia was charming, sweet and very attentive. Even though she didn't speak a word of English we got along famously.

Summary: Castello Strassoldo is a true gem! We rented the Rice Mill and Casa la Vicinia for 10 members of our family and friends to stay for a week. It was a special week because we were bringing my mother-in-law back to Trieste for the first time since she left when she was 17 years old - which was more than 50 years ago. Our vacation week also included our wedding anniversary. The entire property is just gorgeous. It is beautifully maintained, and the grounds are full of flowers, ponds and birds. All of our bedrooms were beautifully appointed, spacious, and very comfortable. Everyone in our group raved about their rooms! The Rice Mill's living room and kitchen were lovely as well, and gave us ample room to cook, make cocktails, and share big dinners and lots of conversation. Because of some changes to people's schedules, we had only one guest use Casa la Vicinia for one night, but she loved it and it was gorgeous inside. When the other room in the casa wasn't able to be used as a bedroom due to changes in the local housing codes, Gabriella generously offered the castle tower room, which also had a beautiful sitting room and an enormous bathroom with walk-in shower. Our two guests who stayed there loved it! Gabriella and her staff were thoughtful, generous, attentive and truly lovely. Nidia was our main contact, and she was exceptionally kind and helpful throughout our entire week. Gabriella and Nidia generously offered to cook and present our anniversary dinner party, which took them two days to prepare. It was held in the castle, and it looked so beautiful! The food was delicious, and Tomasz prepared the best cocktails. It was a very special evening and we were very grateful for their thoughtful attention to all the details - down to the beautiful fresh cut flowers from the garden. All of this was even more remarkable given the fact that Gabriella had thrown her back out that week and was in a lot of pain. She did everything possible to make our stay unique and memorable. I cannot thank Gabriella, Nidia, and Tomasz enough for their hospitality and their generosity. Grazie! Nicole

Summary: Strassoldo was our jumping off point for trips to Maniago, Triesta and Venezia. Gabrielle and Nidia have worked very hard for many years to turn this place into a N. Italy paradise. Easy to reach Cervignano to catch the train. Great to come back to in the evenings. Comfortable and very clean. A walk back in time. Several small restaurants within a few minute walk. And, a very convenient small supermarket with everything you could want to take back to the castle to cook an evening meal. We shared our time there with close friends for week and really didn’t want to leave. Highly recommended, especially to get away from a 24/7 life style. We’ll be back. Grazie! Grazie! PS...Thanks for the wonderful breads!

Summary: Our week in Strassoldo at La Vicinia was perfect! Beautiful gardens, cobblestone walkways, a river complete with water wheel, traditional foods in the quaint village restaurants, church bells, and a roomy two bedroom, two bathroom castle apartment all contributed to our desire to return as soon as possible. Our host, Gabriella, and her dear assistant, Nidia, made us feel like we were visiting family rather than Americans they had never met. The village is located within very close access to beach communities, historical villages with noted early Roman mosaics and ruins, wineries, Venice, the lagoons of the Adriatic, and other areas of interest. Yet, the village and the castle are an oasis of peacefulness and beauty.

Summary: The accommodation was well within our expectations. Spacious bedrooms, nicely furnished, maintained and well equipped. The bathrooms were clean and adequate. And the bonus of all bonuses was our hosts. We simply could not ask for more, both Lella and Midia bent over backwards to make our stay a pleasant and memorable one. We had several wet days and how nice it was to be given a freshly baked pie as compensation for the bad weather. On other days were were given freshly baked bread, wine and chocolates. Despite the weather we were able to see the surrounding areas and particularly liked Grado, Palmanova. We managed to visit Udine in the pouring rain and catch up with a mosiac master. We highly recommend this property and everything it has to offer.
