Situated within a SSSI, this detached holiday barn is situated within the glorious coastline of the South Hams, close to Wembury Bay marine conservation area. This beautifully presented and spacious Grade II listed barn dates back to the 17th century. Close to the owner’s home, it has been carefully restored to a very high standard benefiting from all modern conveniencies. Guests can access the first floor by an oak staircase, or a spiral staircase. It was once an integral part of Langdon Barton - the 300-acre working farm which has been in the same family for 110 years and still in use. A 15-minute walk over fields leads to Wembury beach offering rock pools, a National Trust café and bathing. Here you will also find the South Devon Coastal Footpath, with stunning sea views of Mewstone Island and across Plymouth Sound to the Cornish coastline, and on a clear day in the distance you can see the Eddystone Lighthouse - 13 miles off shore. St Werburgh’s Church, standing on the headland above Wembury Beach, is in the most stunning location. From here you can follow the coastal footpath and catch the water taxi to Newton Ferrers and Noss Mayo. Mount Batten for water sports and yachting is just 5 minutes away. Langdon Barton can also offer secure boat parking. The city of Plymouth is just 7 miles away, and in recent years has gone through a face lift with its new shopping mall and regenerated waterfront areas. The Barbican at night is bustling with nightlife, bars, bistros, restaurants and shops. Dartmoor National Park is 15 miles. Eden Project is 11/4 hour’s drive. Golf 4 miles. Shop/PO 2 miles. Pub 500 yards.

Summary: This was a return visit for us to this property as we loved it so much first time around. The location is fantastic if you like walking and exploring and the property is a good size for a family get together. However, we were disappointed that the barn had not had any updates since our previous visit a year ago and appeared to be lacking some TLC. I think this property needs a bit of tidying up and some care and attention to the smaller details and then it will be a fantastic place to stay again.

Summary: The White Dove Barn cottage was perfect for our long weekend break with 5 adults, 1 teenager and 2 kids. The barn has been converted with character to give you lots of space. The open plan lounge, dining room and kitchen on the top floor was perfect for spending time together as a family. The nearest beach is a short drive or walk away. Jon the owner was very welcoming to all of us and gave me a guided tour of the farm to show me the walk to the beach across the farm. He also lets the kids feed an orphan calf and lamb every morning which was a truly great experience for them. We wouldn't definitely go back to White Dove Barn cottage and not just to see our friends who live in Wembury.
