Summary: We spent two weeks in that gite. We had a great time. Contact was perfect and Sam was supporting at any time. Great tips for the surrounding. The pool was outstanding and we spent a lot of time there. We enjoyed the quite and the space inside and arround.

Summary: The property is ideally located surrounded on all sides by vineyards extremely well tended with nice flowerbeds around the house and the pool. We were however disappointed by by the size of the double bedrooms and the very small bathrooms on the ground floor that came without the usual amenities. The pictures on the property website are a bit misleading regarding the size of the accommodations and the light of the upper rooms.. The house is not exactly a "traditional farmhouse" as advertised on the website. All and all we found this rental rather overpriced.

Summary: We stayed in this property for 2 weeks at the end of August. We were 2 families consisting of 5 Adults, 3 children and a baby, and there was plenty of room for all of us both within the house itself and the gardens/pool area. The house is set probably 50m from the road and is surrounded by vineyards so is very quiet and relaxing. The pool area is amazing and never felt crowded even with all of in there with our inflatables. Many of our days were spent relaxing by the pool but we did venture out to St Emilion, Bergerac and Bordeaux all of which I would recommend. The facilities at the property are also fantastic including table tennis, badminton, boules, 2 outside seating/dining areas, 2 BBQs with tools, sun loungers and parasols, everything you could need. Sam arranged our first night evening meal when we arrived which was very welcome after the long drive, just had to heat it up when we were ready. Sam also invited us all to join her and her son for drinks on the second night which was also lovely, and they also joined us for the odd BBQ and drinks. There is a medium sized supermarket approx. 10 mins drive away which we went to most days for fresh bread and meat etc and they had a good selection of local wines, so I think we ate in every night with just the odd lunch out. Everyone in our party loved the property and the area and cant wait to return.

Summary: We are a family of 5, two adults and a 9, 7 and 4 year old and we had the most fantastic two weeks here. The house is very well catered and like living in a home away from home. The facilities are endless too - ping pong table, darts, boules, badminton, not to mention the fantastic swimming pool which was the highlight! The pool is completely and securely fenced off, has a shallower end and a deeper end for diving, brand new loungers for 8 people and a covered area to shade from the mid day sun if necessary. I don’t think we left the pool area for the first week! The house is in a good location being 30 minutes from St Emilion, 1hr from Bordeaux and similar to Bergerac. The nearest town is just under 20 minutes away where we canoed on the dordogne. It’s so pretty everywhere you don’t mind driving around either! Sam, who looks after the property, was a pleasure and made everything really easy for us, with excellent communication from booking until arrival - even offering to get some supermarket bits for us as we were arriving late in the day. I would not hesitate in recommending. Thank you for a gorgeous holiday!

Summary: This property is set in wonderful countryside, nestled amongst the vines of the local farmer/wine producers. The farmhouse is large and spacious with period features. It is well equipped with everything you would expect and more. We were greeted on arrival by a freindly face. Sue made us feel very at home. The place was clean & tidy. We were provided with extra towels for the week and our beds were made including bed sheets unlike other typically French Gites where we had to pay extra for this. (previous week) There is plenty to do at the location including a fantastic swimming pool, including the diving board, which provided much amusement during our stay. Countryside walks in the local area, badminton net and equipment, table tennis and various other games. Locally, we went to Le Lac, a small lake with beach and park. This is great for the kids/family as it is very safe and secure and is lifeguard supported and only 6km away from Le Roc. We enjoyed an evening with Sue and Tom over several bottles of wine accompanied by nibbles & snacks. A very kind gesture and we very much enjoyed the conversation. It is worth noting that there is a local wine cooperative just over 1km away that sells very drinkable wines. They don't speak English so ensure you know what you want before you go. I am sure Sue can assist here.... There were a mix of supermarkets for supplies, we found the nearest, decent supermarket to be along the road to St. Emilion approximately 11 miles from Le Roc. Whilst heading in this direction I can highly recomend a visit to St Emilion itself, only a further 7 miles. This is largley a tourest area but the restaurants are all very similar, so look for one with good service and you'll enjoy your dining experience. We stayed at Le Roc during August and the temperatures were well into the 30's which was fantastic but it goes without saying that care is required when laying out around the pool to avoid sun burn. Finally, just to say, we had a great stay in a lovely house within a great setting and friendly hosts. We would recommend this to annyone who is looking for a restful family holiday around a pool side. Thanks to Sue & Tom.

Summary: Just returned from a 2-week stay. We were 6 in total and the facilities easily coped and indeed would have coped with 8 people. We rented the full villa. It is possible to rent just the lower floor which would be perfect for up to 4 people. The location is idyllic. The villa is in the middle of immaculately maintained vineyards and in lovely gardens immediately around the property. As such, there is a great deal of peace and quiet. The villa itself is very well equipped. There was nothing that we needed that could not be found. I enjoyed the satellite TV whilst others made great use of the free wifi. The boulangerie is in Veline 3.5 km away (open every day from 6am). The best supermarket is Leclerc near St Foy Le Grande, on the road to Bergerac. 15 minutes drive from the villa. Open every day from 9am (shuts at 12.30pm on Sunday). We took all our meals outdoors. There are two sets of outdoor tables and chairs which are located on different sides of the villa so we could choose the one that gave the most shade. There were very few insects when we were dining or sleeping. I only had to spray the bedrooms once. The star of the property is the pool area. The pool is a good size and deep. It is surrounded by a fence and a gate for safety reasons, but these are camouflaged by the flowers and shrubs which have been allowed to grow tall. This has created a very private area. I sat and read in the shade of the covered area whilst others topped up their tans. Much of our time during the day was spent either around the pool or at one of the outdoor dining tables. The must-see nearby location is Saint-Emelion - 18 miles away. St Vivien itself is generally very sleepy but it does have local wine production. The Cave is located 1 mile from the villa where we bought very good cheap local wines. The owners of the villa live next door. In the past, this would have put me off wanting to rent the villa. But they are very discrete. They never use the pool which was for our sole use. We would occasionally see them as they gardened. We were regularly supplied with the best tomatoes we have ever tasted. And it was actually comforting to know that they were readily available if we had a problem. Take up the offer of a 3-course meal (with wine) on the evening when you first arrive. Unbelievable value and a great start to the holiday. Finally, we all felt safe in spite of the isolation, and had no problem sleeping with windows open.

Summary: We had an amazing weeks stay at Le Roc Nord. The house is set amongst working vineyards, and the very large beautiful gardens were simply stunning with lots of colourful flowers in full bloom. The photographs do not do justice to the lovely surroundings. Pool was fantastic and a very good size. We found it to be more than large enough to swim comfortably, and dive from the diving board. There is a nice shallow area as well. Many pool games and balls etc. were available for use which provided great entertainment. There were plenty comfortable loungers and a lovely shaded area as well. Pool also completely secluded by the clever gardening. We also made full use of the games room, with table tennis, darts, badminton (net set up outside) as well as many other games available. Our family group of 7 ranged in age from 21 to 68 and all found the rooms to be perfect with upstairs and downstairs sitting areas providing plenty space for all. Kitchen very well appointed although we enjoyed eating at the 2 large outside tables and making full use of the BBQ. Sue and Tom were both fantastic hosts and were kind enough to invite us to share a couple of bottles of wine grown from the grapes in the surrounding vineyards, with some lovely snacks also laid on. They were also great at providing hints and tips on where to go in the area. The house is full of local tourist leaflets and a folder with some great suggestions of local places to visit. Whilst there we would recommend Bergerac wine tours, and also enjoyed days out in Bergerac, St Emilion and Sty Foy La Grande as well as a lovely walk to St Vivien to visit the local wine cooperative. If you get the opportunity, have no hesitation in booking Le Roc Nord. We hope to return again soon!

Summary: We have just returned from our first property rental in France, having mainly rented in Spain and the US in previous years. There were 8 of us whose ages range from 71 down to 2 and Tom & Sue's house provided space and equipment for all. The pool and gardens surrounding the property were the biggest attraction to the three younger ones - the fact that the pool was fenced and securely gated and visible from the house allowed us adults to sit and sip wine on the front terrace in peace. The accommodation in Le Roc Nord is exactly as described which meant that the children were able to use the large upstairs room to sit and listen to their music or read after dinner whilst the rest of us could sit and chat in the downstairs lounge. As the weather was superb for our entire two weeks we mostly sat outside for evening meals. The location of Le Roc Nord is entirely peaceful with no noise except for the occasional distant tractor going through the vines. Like previous reviews we ventured out for day trips, driving was a pleasure for once! Bordeaux took us about 1.5 hours with easy access once there on the tram system. St Emilion, Bergerac, Eymet, Sarlat and the wonderful gardens of Marqueyssac all worth a visit. Again, as mentioned in other reviews, Tom & Sue were perfect hosts and were very unobtrusive. As this was our first stay in France we found their local knowledge and suggestions of places to visit and different restaurants very helpful. We would thoroughly recommend the villa to anyone wishing to visit this lovely area of France.

Summary: This was perfect place for two families with younger children (four from 5 - 8) to spend a week. The villa was ideal with one family up stairs and the other down stairs, very clean on arrival and just as the web site advertised. The pool was excellent, secure and in use by the kids and grown ups throughout the week, despite some unusually inclement weather. The welcome pack and first evening meal were also really good, with the soup from the first meal lasting a few nights! Games room was well used by the kids and the setting, within a local vineyard was idyllic. All in all an excellent place to stay and I am sure we will be visiting again either with another couple or as a single family.

Summary: Absolutely beautiful setting. Lots of safe space for my 3 year old son to run about and a huge pool - brilliant in the heat of the day. We barely left the grounds once we arrived. The gardens are stunning and the smell of lavender and herbs gorgeous. Highly recommend.
