Escape to the River House! On a cliff above the Pomme de Terre River, on the outskirts of Bolivar Missouri, is a peaceful place to enjoy a romantic weekend or recharge as you relax on the deck of this lovely home.
Whether the river is running high or low, it is a place for fun or relaxation. We have 4 kayaks (two child size and two adult size) for paddling and floating on the river. A short trail of moderate difficulty starts at the house and goes down the hillside and ends in steps at the river's edge. About 50 yards up river from the steps is a deep hole for fishing or swimming.
Even though the RIVER is so wonderful - the HOUSE completes the wonderfulness of this place to stay. The River House was designed to embrace the outdoors and connect with nature. Unwind on one of the many decks with your glass of wine, while listening to the river, and watching for eagles, fox, deer, owls, raccoons, otters, and herons. Or relax in the hot tub by moonlight and enjoy the stars.
The wooden Klepper kayak frame on the wall in the main room of the house was bought in 1950 by my parents and they passed it on to us in 1980. We bought a new hull at that time. But the rivers in Missouri aren't made for the thin skinned hull, so it was rarely used. It makes us so happy to see it become a part of this beautiful home.
For fresh eggs, bread, and produce, it is a ten minute drive to Greater Polk County Farmer’s Market on the Bolivar Square. It is held weekly (weather permitting) on Saturdays. Or give yourself a break from cooking and dine at the local restaurants in town.

Summary: We had a wonderful stay at the River House. Property owner is extremely communicative and welcoming. We utilized almost every amenity and everything worked flawlessly. My only complaint is the driveway. It is not an ideal situation if you do not have a bigger SUV or truck. I don't think you could make it back to the house safely in a small sedan/ convertible. If the driveway was a little better it would have been a perfect stay. I won't detract from the property itself. The house is open, welcoming, and can comfortably sleep six people. The hot tub and grill worked wonderfully as well. Thank you to Karen for being so awesome and making sure we were taken care of. We will definitely be back.

Summary: Our family thoroughly enjoyed the accommodations provided by the hosts. The house was beautiful inside and VERY clean; there were multiple "extra" touches that were added (things like extra hooks in the bathrooms to make sure that everyone had a place to hang his/her towel, plenty of coffee pods and ground coffee provided, a bowl of snacks left in the immaculately cleaned refrigerator, plenty of dishes and kitchen utensils, and a check-in after the first day to make sure that all was satisfactory). I loved being able to spend quiet time on the upper deck each morning, drinking coffee and doing Bible study. It was so peaceful and calm! On top of that, our two teenagers very much enjoyed being able to take two of the kayaks down to the river to kayak. We loved watching them enjoying the river. This house was absolutely wonderful! Many, many thanks to the hosts for sharing it with us!

Summary: The cabin was amazing! Everything was as pictured, and even better in person. We were there to visit family in the area, we wanted low key and relaxing and that is what we got. We used the smoker every night, very nice to have there. Loved that there were lots of outdoor sitting areas. The hot tub was also a hit! The host thought of everything. Right down to dark wash cloths for makeup (the little things is women appreciate). The host was very responsive, gave instructions well in advance making the check in process and finding the property a breeze. I love knowing I have a place like this to stay when coming to visit. Even my family and friends in the area are considering renting this for a weekend getaway. Will definitely stay here again when I come back.

Summary: This property is wonderful. It’s secluded and quiet, right along the river. But very close to Bolivar, with lots of options for eating out. Host was extremely accommodating (had to switch my dates shortly after we booked) and easy to communicate with. Highly recommend. We loved it.

Summary: This house was awsome, really enjoyed how remote yetclose to town if need anything. River was low but still enjoyed the kayaks. This place was well stocked,clean, will definitely come back again someday, i can imagine how it looks in the fall with foliage. Oh yea , Hot Tub was nice even after a hot day!

Summary: This home is amazing! We were in town for our youngest daughters wedding at Sparrow Lane in Willard, MO and this home was perfect for us. The owners did not over look any detail right down to the soaps condition and hair dryer! And every switch was labeled so we didn't have to attempt to figure out which switch worked which lights. Right on the river with gorgeous trees and some wildlife. This was the perfect place for us with our daughters family (she has an under 1 year old not crawling yet) so we didn't have to worry about the stairway. Great communication with the owners and easy check in and check out. We highly recommend!

Summary: This was the perfect size for our family of 5. Being able to kayak down the river was an added bonus to our vacation. We also loved the privacy. A deer family visited us almost every day as well!
