4 Bedroom House in Rochester

This enchanting home offers a base for all the active delights the Green Mountains have to offer -- skiing, hiking, biking, fly-fishing, kayaking, tubing, swimming and more. And for those who just need a break, it's a house you're delighted to stay home in. This is a well-renovated, caringly decorated, and well-appointed home with stunning and peaceful spot for walks, dining al fresco, hammock time, or just taking in the view. We will consider pets.
A delightful getaway for couples, but large (>1800 sq ft) and kid-friendly enough for 2 families -- the home has been renovated and outfitted with both in mind. We have worked to retain the wonderful character of this 1810 farmhouse -- the first home built in the "Hollows" -- while making some key updates for comfort and convenience.
A vibrant, comfortable living room hosts a piano, abundant books, games, puzzles, bluetooth speaker, and a turn table. Dust off your vinyl bring it North! The dining room table seats 8, with an additional table for overflow. The kitchen is newly updated and very well-equipped. One large bathroom downstairs and 2 smaller ones on the second floor. A delightful screen porch for morning coffee and afternoon naps opens onto a newly installed pea stone patio, embanked by perennial plantings. In the barn, a gameroom offers a pool table, ping-pong, foosball, darts, giant jenga and more during the milder months.
The 3 acre property hosts a year-round stream (with little native trout), a small pond, abundant wildlife and nesting birds, paths that meander through wildflower meadows teeming with butterflies, and dazzling sunsets over the Green Mountains.
With Killington 35 minutes to the South, Sugarbush 25 minutes to the North, and Middlebury Snowbowl 20 minutes West, this is a prime location for downhill skiiers. And for cross-country skiiers and snowshoers, there is a beautiful loop trail just 1/2 mile away, and many trails in the area, including groomed trails in the Green Mountains, a short drive from the house.
The area is popular with cyclists of all stripes. A long-time road- and mountain-biking destination, it is also gaining a reputation for its "gravel" (dirt-road) biking. The nearby White River offers tubing adventures and pristine swimming holes. And hiking abounds, right from the door and from trails in the Green Mountain National Forest, just 10 minutes down the road.
Just down the road is charming Rochester village with its excellent food and cultural activities. And just down the road are key attractions like Warren Falls and the Long Trail, and towns to explore like Waitsfield and Middlebury.
Available for your use are:
* River tubes and electric pump for 6 people ().
* Assorted yard games, including croquet, cornhole/bean bag toss, and volleyball.
* Assorted cross-country skis.
* Bicycles suitable for ages 5-7 and 8-10, as well as assorted adult bikes (but this changes so check before booking if this is a priority).

Summary: This farmhouse is exactly as it is presented online. It is the perfect confirmation of remote and secluded - but just a few miles from town and anything you might need. Even in a winter storm, the roads are well plowed and reasonably easy to navigate. The kitchen is well-stocked. The living room and dining room are a cozy place to relax or work. Beds are comfortable. We loved our stay!

Summary: This little farm house is a jewel! Three couples spent the winter here skiing, snowshoeing and exploring rural Vermont. The house is well stocked and comfortable, a perfect place for a family or couples who know each other well. 30 minutes was all it took to get us to Sugarbush, and as seasons pass holders we were delighted. Cross country and snowshoeing were right out the front door. The nearby town is tiny but offers everything you need and has several good restaurants to choose from. Erika is a great Host, always available and fun to work with. Don’t miss the opportunity to stay here.

Summary: We stayed at this charming home for 6 weeks and loved every single day of it. Erika is a dream to coordinate with, the home is super cozy and well stocked, the grounds are stunning and the area is fabulous for walking and exploring Vermont in all directions. This is an old world home, with a cottage/ cabin feel and furnishings that are worn, but in a warm, inviting and lived-in way. There are some sloping floors, wood paneled walls, wainscotted bathrooms. There are puzzles, games, cards, vinyl records, turntable and a vintage piano that made us wish we’d stuck with our long ago piano lessons. The grounds are lovely - spacious and peaceful, with perennial gardens, raised beds for vegetables in summer, meadows full of wildflowers, a pond, and a backdrop of rolling treed hills. The country roads are hard to beat for stunning vistas and bucolic peace, and area trails abound. We loved it all.

Summary: My husband and I stayed here with our pup for our first wedding anniversary in October. This place was a wonderful respite from our busy everyday life. The home and grounds were gorgeous, and there was much to explore. We particularly enjoyed the backyard and the games in the barn. Also, the home is well-equipped with anything you might need to just hang out at the property. We cooked most of our own meals while we were there. Additionally, the town is well-positioned to visit multiple destinations within a reasonable drive, including Waterbury/Stowe, Killington, and Woodstock. The town of Rochester is also very charming and a nice place to go and wander and have some lunch. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would recommend the home to anyone looking for a peaceful, quiet getaway.

Summary: Great cozy home. Erika was very detailed about the house and things to do in the area. We were in town for a wedding at a farm around the block :-) I wish we could have taken more advantage of the house and all its offerings. I would stay again.

Summary: Our family wanted to celebrate my mother's birthday, including my nieces from California who have never been to VT before. Our get-together was 8 people, three generations , ages 85 to 11. We enjoyed our stay and the home was ideally located "away from it all" yet near skiing and grocery/restaurant options. House well-stocked with cook ware and basics. The history of the house adds to all we loved about it. The kids were comfortable in their room down the hall from us with 4 twin beds, grandparents had a quiet room downstairs, and it's convenient to have 3 bathrooms. We all enjoyed the living-dining room along with the fantastic view. It's close enough to the town of Rochester yet peaceful and quiet. Thank you!!

Summary: Cozy cabin in the winter. Warm and well appointed with quaint touches. Our family of five had plenty of room! We enjoyed playing games on the comfortable couches while the snow fell outside! Great location, 10 minutes from shops in Rochester and halfway between Killington and Sugarbush. Not "modern", but we didn't lack for anything (washer, dryer, well stocked kitchen, books and magazines to peruse, plenty of linens, etc)!
