Positive: Cosy double-storey apartment with traditional Japanese elements cleverly weaved into a contemporary design. We stayed for 4 nights and it was a very comfortable, memorable experience. The modern bathtub and shower were amazing. Thoughtful amenities provided throughout the apartment, in addition to a well equipped kitchenette. It’s conveniently located within walking distance to the popular shopping street and good restaurants. Parking was easy too. There was a problem with the heating system on our first night, but it was acted upon very promptly to get it rectified even though it was past 9pm at that point. They were very apologetic about the situation and we really appreciated their efforts and sincerity. We will definitely recommend this property to anyone visiting Aizuwakamatsu.
Negative: Just a gentle suggestion for the property management to do checks on the heating system before new guests check in to ensure that all is in working order, especially if there is a significant time gap between the previous guests’ stay and the next, just in case. Some of the kitchenette’s bowls and plates in the drawers were not very clean with food stains still on them but we gave them a good scrub and it was fine afterwards. Everything else in the apartment was clean and neat.

Positive: Perfect location close to the main street. Lot of restaurants and konbini close to the property. Very close to the city bus stop. Nice japanese traditional house with modern touch, amazing bathroom. Enough heaters to make you feel comfy even in cold nights.

Positive: The house itself is beautiful. It's a traditional Japanese home with a very traditional layout. It's been renovated in such a way that preserves the feeling of a traditional home but with clean and modern materials. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful. There were so many small amenities in the house that made our stay so comfortable. In fact, this house was so nice that it was difficult to stay in a hotel at our next destination. If you have a car, the location is extremely convenient. I wouldn't recommend it to people who are relying on public transportation. There are grocery stores and restaurants nearby. We saved a lot of money by cooking in the kitchen every day. Basic things like soy sauce and oil were already provided, as were all of the dishes and utensils. Downstairs is a tatami room where you can relax on the floor and eat. It has a great view of the garden. Aside from a table and cushions, there's nothing else in the room so you'll need to bring your own entertainment. We had a little Bluetooth speaker and video games. The shower was massive and the water pressure was great. The towels provided were extremely soft. The beds were comfortable. I stayed in summer, and it was nice and cool in the bedroom. The air conditioner works very well, and we never felt hot even when it was 38 °C outside. I imagine it must be very warm in winter also. As it is a traditional house, only the upstairs bedroom and downstairs tatami/living room have air conditioners. This is completely normal for Japan, but I am writing it here because some visitors from overseas may not realize that central air conditioning is not common.
Negative: When sleeping in the bedroom, the bright green light from the emergency exit sign shines through the paper shoji screen of the door, which made it challenging to sleep at night. It would be great if the owners could find a way to block that light. Also, the sun rises very early during the summer, and there are no curtains or shutters on the windows. I always wake up early, so it didn't bother me. But other guests might be annoyed that the bedroom becomes bright so early. In the tatami room, I would have liked softer cushions. It's also a shame that there wasn't a TV down there. It would have been nice to relax on the tatami and watch the Olympics, but the only TV is in the bedroom. In the kitchen, there were no tea towels or paper towels available for us to wipe the counter, so we had to check the staff cleaning cabinet to find some. It would be a nice touch to have these items readily provided. The parking situation was a bit confusing, and I wasn’t entirely sure if the recommended parking spot behind a pachinko parlor was secure. It might help if there was clearer communication or signage about the parking arrangements. The owner was very attentive and wanted to ensure we had all the necessary information for a comfortable stay. At the beginning, there was some detailed communication, including a phone call that lasted about five minutes to go over the house rules. While it was thorough and helpful, future guests might appreciate a shorter summary. Despite the above issues, everything was wonderful. I'm just providing this feedback because the owners really seem to be working hard to make sure that guests are comfortable, and I think it would be helpful for them to know. I enjoyed every moment in this house, and I would definitely love to stay again.
